I test-drove the 2024 Toyota bZ4X for a week to find out how the company’s first EV performs after perfecting the hybrid car. The Toyota bZ4X is a crossover SUV with an estimated range of 236 miles and 201hp performance, so it's the kind of thing that should get you from place to place with ease. Its futuristic look makes it a stark contrast on the road, while the driver’s seat has a unique cockpit style design.

What do you think? Does their first attempt at an EV need work? 🚘

Tested one, loved it. Picking it up tomorrow. A 24, LTD, AWD same color combo as your test car. Now I just have to install my Level 2 Charger in the garage and run my 240V to it

The one owners (such as myself) love, while those who don’t own it hardly dislike.

I actually think this is a quite decent car. Living it. And after testing several, the Toyota is the only one driving like a normal car. Most of the competition makes you feel like something is wrong, with a weird boat-like sensation, especially with the Hyundais.

Just an observation about the charge port door. Having a manual door is a feature, not a bug (this goes for all cars—EV or ICE). You don’t want an electric motor/latch to burn out from ice covering the door or simply conking out while locked closed.

Could be better is an understatement of the century! Here's a *GENEROUS* comparison to the *Tesla Model 3 LR RWD:* BZ4X (depending on trim) has *111-119 miles less range, * *20-30% slower charging, * no rear screen, $900 higher average 10-year maintenance/repair cost (by brand), *3-8 fewer speakers, 1-3 fewer subs, 1 fewer amp, general warranty covers 1 year/14k miles less, drivetrain warranty covers 3 years/60k miles less, no FSD, * all for *$10k HIGHER price...* Completely insane

The one caveat is that here's a *HUGE* disparity between the buy and lease prices and I can't make sense of it. The lease prices on the Toyota website look great - better than Tesla - but then I look at any of the advertised dealer leases and they're 60-100% higher and say they require $20k down-payment! WtF is this? 😵‍💫

Just a compliance model but I don't fault Subaru for using it to gain some experience with EVs. I'm still waiting for Toyota to start the $500B investment in replacing America's 140K gas stations with hydrogen refueling.

There are better and cheaper BEVs made by Chinese.
