Palpatine and Vader admired many of the ancient sith of old and for many different reasons. However, Palpatine admired one Sith Lord more than most, telling Vader he should follow in his footsteps. This warror sith was of course Darth Malgus, the warrior sith who had sacked the Jedi temple. Malgus was a pure weapon of the dark side, fully embracing his own suffering to increase his power. He even killed his own lover to prevent himself from becoming weaker. Just like Vader, Malgus had been injured by a Jedi knight, but instead of letting his injuries defest him, he became stronger than ever before. Palpatine gifted Vader with ancient texts about Malgus, hoping it would inspire him to become a powerful Sith Enforcers, just like Malgus.

The difference of course is Malgus was naturally steeped in the Dark Side with state of art cybernetics. While Vader had janky cybernetics and had to rely on the constant pain to keep him Angry.

I just imagine Palpatine giving Vader books as like a Christmas gift exchange

Vader: "Whoa!!! This Malgus guy looks pretty badass! Let's see how his story continues..."
Datapad: "...And, in order to surprass his weakness, Malgus killed his twi'lek lover in her sleep"
Anakin: 😢

Wow they’re very similar, I wonder if after killing his lover if Darth Malgus also let out a long no.

Darth malgus had so much respect for the jedi that died fighting him at the temple, he buried them.

Palp: “Darth Malgus was rendered almost entirely immobile through organic means. His suit allowed him to channel his hatred and become stronger than he could have ever been if he was pure flesh.”

Vader: “If that’s true, then why can’t I be as strong as I once was with all of the technology we have hundreds of years after the events of his story?”

Palp: “…”

The way Malgus was walking in that last clip radiated pure “fuck around and find out” energy

Solid ass choice to say so myself. I personally thought it would have been Revan, but Malgus does hold serious power over just about every other Sith.

Malgus was truly a force to be reckoned with. One of the great Sith Lords of old.

So this would be why Palpatine would tell Vader that he (Vader) killed Padme so he could embrace his suffering like Malgus.

Grey bald guy with a breathing apparatus, facial scars, a dead lover, injured by a jedi, driven by suffering, ransacked the jedi temple, took control of the republic army? Yeah its no wonder Vader idolized him

It took four(at the very least) of the Galaxy’s best warriors to even stand up to him. Republic or Empire, those warriors each had members who felt the Emperor’s power, were beyond powerful in their own rights, killed thousands of enemies, and became legends. Malgus was barely defeated by them.
