Note that in blender 3.31, Glossy -> Direct at 13:52 has been changed to Specular -> Light. When you hover your mouse over to Light option the pop-up box will say "Deliver glossy direct pass." which is Glossy Direct in the video.

If you like me, got to this step and your donut isn't picture perfect like the one Blender Guru has made, remember, we are still newbies. What matters more is that when you are done, you have a good understanding of the *basics* of Blender that you can continue to work on and improve. Take it from me, I've been using Photoshop for 7 years and even if I taught a newbie to the best of my ability there would still be an initial EXPERIENCE gap. Experience is earned, so just keep at it, we'll all get there eventually!

Note For the confused ppl using blender 3 (not alpha) when adding gloss to the image, if ur using Eevee as your render engine the option for Glossy under Layer properties are not there. Re-render your Image in Cycles and the Glossy option should be there.

Only two parts remaining! I'm still recording so Part 15 will be out Monday and 16 on Tuesday. Thanks for your patience.

For the beginners that are just starting out, you don't have to add every single one of these effects to every single render
This video is to explain how different composition nodes work and how you can use them.

To anyone whose image isn't dissapearing at 2:48. Press N go to "View" tab and uncheck the "Backdrop" at the top of the tab.

If anyone is having a problem where they dont see the RGB colour on the right side after plugging it into Alpha Over. Delete the path that is going from Render Layers to Viewer Node and add another one that is going from Alpha Overs Image to Viewers Image. Rest stays the same. Hopefully it will work for you too.

At 13:00 there is changes in options if you are using Eevee instead of Cycles. To reproduce Glossy Direct just click Specular Light and you'll get same results. Or change render to Cycles

Just want to say thank you SO MUCH for this series! I've had blender installed for a couple of years, and tried to play with it in the past, but haven't really been able to figure out where to start. I've done a couple of renders of minecraft worlds and characters, but this Definitely filled in a lot of what I was missing!

Thanks for these amazing tutorials!
I finally started using Blender recently after years of contemplating and this series is the first one I did which has helped me so much to grasp the software.

For anyone that doesn't see "Glossy" under their Layer Properties - you need to switch over from Eevee to Cycles, then it should show up for you

If you do not see the preview of you ellipse at 7:00 with control + shift + left click, make sure to change from "render result" to "viewer node" in the image editor

I cannot stretch this enough, I come back here for nostalgia and ended up following the whole episode for a render of mine!
