Of course Alpha is right. He said safe and effective for hypertrophy. He didn’t say anything about it’s carryover into conventional deadlifting or even strength

Not everyone is concerned about displaying their strength in the realm of conventional deadlifts, so yes the trapbar will get you strong and jacked if you focus on it.

If a sumo lifter and conventional lifter are having an argument, perhaps the matter can be best settled with a low handle trap bar deadlift

that 795 deadlift is still my favorite pull from you even though you've pulled more, I've easily watched it over 100 times

He said good for hypertrophy not carry over to other exercises. So we're not even discussing the right point in the video

The context is a bit nuanced here. Alex is coming from a place of hypertrophy specific training and it sounds like you are coming from a powerlifting specific point of view here.
Would I do trap bar deads to build my conventional deadlift? Hell no.
Would I do trap bar deads to build my upper back?
Hell yes.

Honestly I feel like I got carryover from the trap bar in a weird way bc whenever I try exploding into the trap bar since it doesn’t bend I feel like it helped teach me how to grind a heavy weight off the floor and it helped my farmer walks

Your 795 was so damn intense I always coem back to that lift

I have been using them very well for my straight bar deadlift, but the way I deploy them is on a rotation that also includes stiff leg, sumo, zercher and conventional. I kind of just rotate through the whole posterior chain, and it is just fun to max out with the trap bar. It is a real confidence boost to overload with it.

Agreed. The #1 carryover for me personally from trap bar deadlifts into my other lifts is my ability to properly brace.

I do think one thing that could be added to the discussion is AlphDensity's anthropometry. The guy has short arms and is more built to bench than to deadlift. I do think that for some folks, the conventional deadlift might be the better choice over the hexbar even for hypertrophy. It's all about finding out the tools that match your needs.

I agree and your probably correct for the most part. For me you can really put the weight more on the back if u wish. Number one never use the high handle part always use the one got you pulling the longest. If you’re upright and hands by ankles more quad if you got more bend with hands starting more toward toes way more back. I think most this quad thing is more hi handle use.

They also dont transfer well to straight bar deadlifts becuase the bar path if the weight is in line with your center of your body vs with the straight bar the weight is in front of you whenre your brining it to the center of your body. Thats why you see ut common for people to hit heavier weights on a trap bar in comparison to a traditional deadlift on a barbell.

Ben Pollack advocates for them regarding hypertrophy, and IMO hes the SME for powerlifting type training regarding hypertrophy.

I destroyed my right elbow falling off my back deck and can’t turn my hand from neutral and thus can’t do any straight bar lifting so I do Trap Bar Deads, SSB Squats, and Swiss Bar Floor Presses

I found that trap bar deadlifts do carry over to a straight bar deadlift if you gain enough strength on the trap bar. Conventional isn't even super technical so just getting generally stronger will help regardless.
