This is the 107th episode of Lightroom Quick Tips where I give a quick Lightroom tip.

In this episode I demonstrate how to use a smartphone to acquire geotags then how to load those tags into Lightroom and match them to the images you took.

This and future episodes of Lightroom Quick Tips can be viewed here:

Fantastic video. You keep providing some of the most useful information on Lightroom and photography in general. Thanks again.

Geotagging also works with tracks from an ordinary GPS device like my Garmin eTrex 30 which I use when hillwalking. The feature in Lightroom to align miss matched times between the devices I have found to be very useful. The eTrex has better battery life than my phone and is more reliable than a phone app.

Very informative, Anthony. Thanks for posting. I was wondering about the file you downloaded to your desktop. After you sync the information in the file with the photos in Lightroom, can you delete that file, or do you need to save it?

Thank you for another great video. It might be worthwhile to elaborate on how to exclude position tags when you are exporting. For example one may not want to post their home's location. Using Ctrl-A it is easy to tag images you do not want tagged. Is it LR that has the ability to draw circles of variable diameter around points you do not want tagged? I thought I remembered that from some time ago.

Excellent tip! I usually record my walks with the Runkeeper app. I have just checked and I can download the GPX directly from their web page and LR accepts it. Now I will be able to geotag my photos taken on walks!

Very interesting. Thanks for the enlightenment. Any way to do this in Photoshop CC?

Hi Anthony, another great video I do really enjoy and look forward to your videos. I have an Android phone and found Geotag Photos Pro on the Play store which uploads my recorded trails as a gpx files automatically to my Dropbox account. However after 3 free routes there is a charge. I looked around and found the My Tracks app which downloads recorded tracks to my Google drive for import into Lightroom. Just thought that I would let others know that are on Ardroid. Keep up the great work.

Do you have any lightroom presets we can use?

I believe this only geotag the photos while using LR. If you view the original file (i.e. not any exported file) in another program the geotag will not be there. To put the geotag data into the original file you have to use the geotag App's own system. Geotag Photos Pro does this very nicely.

Olympus has just released the TG-5 which has built-in geotagging.

Amazing, I really wish I knew about this app before my travel to Italy with my beautiful Samsung NX1 ;-)

thanks tony. Fuji's own camera app allows up to 99 minutes of geotagging and if you need more just begin another session :)

Anthony for info I use an app called Trackrec....which is free to download, works in the same way as this one, I have found it to be very reliable and accurate, not sure if it works with Android or not, hope your viewers find this information useful....regards, and thanks for the many helpful videos that you make
