The map module can be really useful if you have a camera with GPS. I recently went on a trip to India, involving some very long railway journeys. Some were six hours or more. I took some interesting pictures out of the train windows, but did not have a clue where we were. But after getting home, the map module told me! Very useful.

The coordinates are not always very accurate though. I went on a trip to Hungary to photograph birds. All the pictures from any one shoot were taken from exactly the same spot (the hide). Yet the map module shows them scattered all over the place, maybe up to a couple of hundred metres apart. So it is useful for generally where you are, but not necessarily useful for an exact pinpoint.

What would be really great is if the module would show not only the place the photo was taken, but also the direction you were facing. Imagine your are taking a picture of a mountain range miles away (as I was in India): where the shutter was pressed is relatively irrelevant, what is more important is to see where the camera was pointing, to help identify the peaks in the picture. I am sure the technology exists, maybe we will see it in the next version of Lightroom (if we are lucky...).

I have no use for the Map module. I’ve used Lightroom since Version 4 and have never used it. Can you tell me how I might benefit from it?

ANTHONY, help. As you may know the map module has been off line in Lightroom for some time but now has been fixed. Trouble is that during the time that it has been off line I have imported hundreds of images into Lightroom and I can't remember which images have been logged into the map module. Is there a way of searching all my images to identify those which have not been placed in the map module???
