Advanced Map Making Tutorials Part 9 - Countdown

I frequently get requests for tutorials about various parts of my maps, so I've decided to start a series where I will be going through how to start building a custom minecraft map.

In this ninth episode we create the Countdown to start the game and discuss some issues with lag.

This series is designed for Minecraft 1.9 - the Minecraft 1.8 part has been discontinued.

One tip about those ladders: if you are not going to use the layers technique, you could afterwards clone the whole box one more time, but then filtered: only clone the ladders (or vines, signs, buttons, etc.). This will "re-clone" the ladders so they are actually there.

Damn you captions series! Now I hear every intro and outro of you as "nice line" or "sliced my moment"...

Episode 9 of Advanced Map Making is here - a bit of a shorter episode where we follow up on last week's arena copying and make a countdown.

Has anyone else noticed, that the score "Count" was exactly 1337 while +slicedlime was typing?
It was at 10:28

If you want to make it fancy, you could make the waiting time longer if there are more players online (because then there's proabably more lag). Just another execute with @a and then scoreboard players add.

Slicedlime, you should disable the previous output from the command blocks because it uses a lot of memory

For my map i have some race idea but if i woul clone the runs all 1 by 1 it would be to much, cuz it is 150 blocks long.... BUT i cloned parts of it that are 15 by 15.. It works even on a computerhosted server.. no lagg.. btw nice vids i love them and could you plz play mc maps with the creators/friends?

Shouldn't you place a command block conditional to the state-switching command block, that sets the tick countdown back to 0?

You could also do: T minus five, four, three, two, one, we're starting the match.

The only problem with y level layers I can think of is upside down levers and buttons and, if there are any, other hanging blocks.
