Whether for IT administration, system recovery, or system maintenance, Microsoft's SysInternals utilities are vital tools for any sysadmin's toolkit. Even knowing about just a few of them can help speed up a machine or diagnose the presence of malware.

There's AutoLogon, which provides a shortcut to a registry key for configuring automatic logon to a system — perfect for testing, development and home use. AutoRuns is for when you need to remove any shadow of a doubt about what's running on your system: see every process, inspect keys and entries in the registry, jump to files in the system and a lot more. Process Explorer is Task Manager on steroids, and PSInfo and Contig can provide deep insight in the right moments.

You can look up Mark Russinovich's "Case of the Unexplained" videos, where he goes over real world usage situations. Microsoft also has some TechEd videos about the Sysinternals Suite, and Malware removal with sysinternals specifically.
