Beginner UBER EATS Driver MISTAKES 2023
What are some things you’ve learned since starting Uber eats?

Some I'd add:

1. Know which stores are the slowpokes. My rule of thumb is that if a store needs 10 minutes to fulfill an order three straight times I stop going there. If the order is too good pass up, be sure to communicate the wait time to your customer.

2. If the customer is being rude to you, have some self-respect and call the courier app the order is under and report them as a potentially unsafe customer. The order will be canceled without affecting your stats and they'll compensate you at least the base fare. If you already have the food you have a free meal as well. My saying is "Being rude means no food."

3. If you live in a military town, unless you are absolutely blown away by the order, don't deliver on post, ESPECIALLY to the barracks. If you don't have a CAC (military ID), then you have to get a temporary one regularly. Then you run the risk of random gate inspections. MP's are much stricter than civilian cops. Barracks can be very difficult to navigate and those SMs tend to be bad tippers and communicators.

4. If you're going to do a dirty double (doing an Uber Eats and Doordash order at the same time) make sure the destinations are near each other. When in doubt, don't do it.

5. Do not become an aggressive driver. You have time and 99.9% of customers are patient; they understand most things are out of your control The extra buck per hour you might get is not worth the increased risk of being pulled over or, even worse, getting into a wreck. I go at most 5 over the speed limit, drive extra cautiously and I make $20-25/hr in a pretty limited market with near perfect ratings.

6. Tamper your expectations and be patient. Most videos by gigtubers on how to get big orders and make a high hourly pay is mostly clickbait. Food delivery is a lot like fishing: some days you gets bites from lunkers all day, sometimes you only get minnows and some days you get a leather boot and it's all out of your control.

I ride with my boyfriend so while he is driving, I can send personalized messages. I’ve noticed anything I can do to make it more personalized increases my tips. But even still I’m shocked to see how many people don’t tip!

Door dash sent me to a crack house and said it was a cold stone creamery literally almost died for a waffle cone

If you’re not scared to work during the night the money is always good between 10p-4a. Plus Uber has a bonus every night for those drivers. No one wants to drive at those times so you generate 8-9 at least per trip. I carry my Glock with the switch on it

Yep. I learned some these tips as I started doing Uber Eats over a year ago. I park my car near a shopping area with multiple restaurants. Luckily there are Hotels all around where customers order food. I definitely make a good amount of money while keeping my miles to a minimum. Best days/nights deliver is during football season. I only care to watch my team play

My husband is a UPS driver and I driver help for him at peak season (winter holidays). We live on his delivery route (and near a ton of stores!) so I am super familiar with nearly all the neighborhoods and streets so it makes it a lot easier to navigate. I recommend driving around the places you want to deliver to get familiar.

Oh wow, thank you! Helpful tip about how the app tells you the miles to get to the restaurant. Not the entire trip. I kind of had to figure that out on my own but you made it make sense! I thought every channel was going to be having the same tips, but that really was helpful. Because other channels will tell you to look for a certain pay based on the number of miles by the number of miles that it shows is to the restaurant. I always try to go off of what it says is the time it takes to do the whole trip.

Uber Eats should add a order acceptance timer on orders like doordash does. Without the timer, it's stressful when making a beneficial decision.

The annoying part is when the app requires you to enter a PIN # from the customer for you to confirm delivery and the customer doesn’t answer their phone or your text messages. Wastes so much time.

Yep that's good advice in all honesty. Thx for taking the time to share a few things!

I would be delivering on an e-bike where I don't necessarily get stuck in traffic and whenever feasible and within legality, I can get on the sidewalk to get to my destinations. My concerns would be the battery life, which means I can go a 27 mile distance before requiring a full charge and safety.

I started out with Uber Eats but then switched to Door dash, I make way more money with door dash. Uber Eats also would have me traveling far out like a 30 minute drive for like $8.75 and it takes them a while to pay out your tips. Door dash is better in opinion

I miss checking the items. But they seal the bags now. U can only check the receipt. I get why they seal them. But then I'll get a call something missing

Wish I would have seen this a few weeks ago.😂. I have been on other apps for years, but just started w UBEREATS. I got burned a twice on mileage thing then realized it.🤯. I don’t like that-I wish their gps was different. It is hard to see the house 🏡 where they put the pin 📍 compared to other apps. I also don’t like how you can’t see the address, and the one they originally show is usually off a few blocks, as well. I have a blacklist-not many on it, but a few from other apps. Both the apps also screw you with bad customers sometimes, but may not tell you until it is picked up-luckily these are rare, but signature & pin customers. We have two restaurants that always forget stuff, but they are close to me-and the way they package, your u can not tell. I once had a lady give me a $40 cash tip because I sent her a pic-she asked me to open her box & check whatever toppings (from this lax restaurant)-it was a rare occurrence, but so kind of her, in addition to ten on the app, but the customer really should not feel the need to tip extra because that restaurant screws up all the time.
