This is the best explanation of VRR technology I've seen. Everybody else reads from the brochure which gets very confusing with all of the marketing terms.

Finally some decent explanation of LFC which I was looking for!

Oh, how much I wish I could smash the like button ONE THOUSAND TIMES here! You not only ended all my curiosity about if there was any difference between VRR and FreeSync (as I was "feeling", there isn't), but you also talked so much about LFC, which I honestly didn't know at all and it is an insanely amazing feature! Thanks so much! Cheers from Rio de Janeiro!

Easily the best explanation and demonstration of refresh rate syncing I was able to find on here.

I think something need to be some clarification about VRR and Freesync.

The first it's part of the HDMI 2.1 protocol (which the HDMI forum just recently f*cked up due to making *everything* 2.1 despite not supporting the full feature set) and Freesync in the name AMD gave to the support for that protocol ON HDMI 2.0.
Remember guys, this has existed for a long time, initially was born on the PC monitor side as a Display Port protocol option, so yes, Freesync and VRR are effectively the same but born different.

This was the info that I was looking for!

I was comparing Sony's OLED tvs to LG's OLED tvs and I was confused as to why Sony only supported VRR while LG supported VRR, G-Sync Compatible, and AMD FreeSync Premium.

I did a few searches and kept seeing the same statement that VRR and FreeSync are the same, however, when I compare the HDMI 2.1 Specs and VRR to FreeSync's certification, LFC is the only feature that's exclusively present on AMD's website.

I also noticed that G-Sync Compatible is NVidia's adoption of VRR through HDMI, but it still confused me that Sony's OLED tvs only listed VRR instead of listing it as "VRR/G-Sync Compatible".

Since the PS5 only showed support for VRR as opposed to the Series X listing both VRR and FreeSync, in addition to Sony's OLED tvs only listing VRR, I arrived at the conclusion that devices that only list VRR may or may not support LFC as it is not required by the HDMI 2.1 Standard. LFC is required for the FreeSync certification and I'm assuming the G-Sync compatible certification, since NVidia tests VRR panels before they can adopt the badge.

Even though rtings.com lists several Sony OLEDS as being G-Sync compatible and supporting LFC, I went with LG just to be safe and was satisfied with the purchase. I have an LG C2 and I do find it interesting that it has one toggle for both VRR and G-Sync Compatible and a separate toggle for FreeSync Premium, because if they were all the same tech, I'd assume they'd all share a toggle since the tv supports LFC and all the technologies would effectively do the same thing.

Sorry for rambling, I haven't done any extensive testing or anything, but I'm just glad that this conversation is being had, because I felt like I was going crazy.

Sir. That was an excellent example of VRR to get past all the marketing hype (Gsync, Freesync etc.) Really shows that right now the Series X is the most feature complete experience in gaming. Sony needs to quit sleeping and bring this to PS5 as soon as possible.

It is interesting to check how VRR works at 30 frames per second .. For example, on the X Box Series X

Thank you so much!!!! This prove my theory from way back that its just a little setting toggle to make us feel better

Thanks for the breakdown! So there isn’t any downside to enabling Freesync, but there also isn’t any downside to sticking with VRR, right? They’re both identical?

Hallo, gutes video. Danke😅😊

What are the side effects/downsides to going into the LFC range? There has to be some drawback otherwise they wouldn't need to call it LFC in the first place.
