What if you're a beginner female lifter for whom the empty bar represents a large percentage of the work set?

Right before lifting there is no point doing stretches. But you should generally do them really often. Otherwise, you will lose range of motion, you also might be hurt.

Depends on the context.

As a warm up, I completely agree. But as far as prehab goes, spending SOME time on training stabilizers is a solid idea for longevity.

With that being said, training stabilizing muscles can be achieved without the funky band exercises and face pulls. Benching and squatting with an earthquake bar can have the same results or greater due to specificity
