For those who are wondering those are natural gas flares. Natural gas is a byproduct of oil exploitation, but due to the heavy regulations and lack of building permits for pipelines, it’s too expensive for the oil producers to take that gas and store and transport it, so they just burn it.
Imagine the waste… all that could be used for heating, and could reduce our energy bills, but government doesn’t like that.
