6. Building block for collagen

Been a vegan since I was 16. I am 62 now and just changed to the keto diet. 1st time I've been able to be at a good weight not take my thyroid pill and not take my cholesterol pill.

For anyone like me who has trouble eating the connective tissue, try slow cooking it for several hours (crock pot, stovetop low simmer, in the oven on the "warm" setting overnight, etc). The meat is fall-apart tender, and the grissle renders down into a liquid.

I've been having 2-3 grams of glycine powder with 2-3 grams on NAC powder 2-3 times a day on an empty stomach on top of taking collagen petidedes (20g) with chelated copper tablets and vitamin C from fresh organic oranges once a day and not with the NAC/Glycine. At 57 years my joints and tendons are 100% and I have been training at the gym for 15 years and am on the tools at work. Age wise I look and feel like I'm 43.

Dr. Berry, I have been binge-watching your videos for the last four days. There are very few people, in my experience, who can convey complicated information in such a succinct and engaging manner. I knew absolutely nothing about ketogenic or carnivore diets before I started watching. I have many of the ailments that you cover in various videos and I’ve been given hope that, even at my age (67), I can effect positive change and heal. Thank you so much!

1. Gelatin Powder
Gelatin is the name for cooked collagen. It is made almost entirely of protein, and its unique amino acid profile gives it many health benefits. Gelatin can be used to make jell-o, homemade ice cream, gummies, whipped cream, etc. Glycine is abundant in gelatin.

Glycine is a neurological inhibitor. It slows the nervous system down when it's too amped up, which by extension decreases cortisol and adrenaline.

Very interesting! I'm mostly carnivore and don't often want chicken, but sometimes I crave the parts sold with skin on them. Now I know why! This just confirms my belief in intuitive eating. Thank you yet again.

Was reading one of your books today (Lies My Doctor Told Me). I bought it last year for my Kindle after watching Fat Fiction. It surprised me that fat was healthy, so I was curious as to what other lies we have been told, so I got your book (as you mentioned you did with diverticulitis). I had already read it, but I didn't realise you were the author the first time around. Thank, it is a good book.

I don't know how I missed understanding this equation about muscle meat and glycine. Glad to have it explained after a friend gave me a Glycine and Malic Acid supplement. I have severe joint pain and arthritis. I did know about Bone Broth but just didn't put it all together! Thanks!

I Cook chicken thighs (skin on, bone in) in salted bacon grease in my lidded cast iron. Crispy skin, tender and juicy meat. Yum!

Buying Ground Round (ground beef) that is 86% (14% "fat") instead of extra lean is better for you overall because the tendons, ligaments, and some of the gristle is included in the meat for "filler" and weight. That adds-up to more gycine and collagen.
