I've used this method to remove unwanted azaleas, boxwoods, crepe myrtles and even a riverbirch tree.

Be sure to use a quality carbide tipped saw blade, the cheap bimetal blades don't cut nearly as well and don't last as long.

It's not uncommon for new plants to sprout from the remaining roots, especially crepe myrtles! If this happens, just spray the new growth with a little Roundup.
