Winning doesnt make you happy, it makes you relieved. Just like league

as a casual player, i’m honestly leagues more scared of the card system than the number system. with numbers, i can reasonably guess what will happen after each match, and a loss will only impact me short term. with cards, i lose once, and it stays with me.

I went 4-0 and I was feeling great, thinking I was doing so well, ended the card 5-9. I won 4 times in a row just to get deranked twice. I don't care if I wouldve lost it anyways. Seeing my rank go up gives me a confidence boost and makes me feel like I'm a better player, going 4-0 doesn't give me the same feeling, personally.

Eskay was so spot on with the stuff about losing 5 games early on, or getting 4 wins then losing 5

Actually insane these guys released this ranked system and just left it.

At this point, Ranked Mystery Heroes is the only thing keeping me playing ranked because it actually feels semi-close to as much fun as unranked.

The fix to the update system while keeping it around is pretty simple: Just update after 5 games. Period. You then know exactly how many games you need to play for the update. Loss streaks don't sour your mood nearly as much. The 4-0 -> 5-5 thing still lets you see your rank go up since you really would have something like 4-1, 1-4. Since you know how many games you need to win, it's much easier to keep the motivation to keep playing.

the anxiety shift in my case is that instead of seeing number go down, now every time I lose a game I know I havent progressed towards getting placed, which means I will need to play more games just to place. My issue isnt really the result of the placing itself because I dont care about that

I’m always in a hard cycle when it comes to OW.

-Play for a solid month
-stop playing for 2 month
-play for 2 weeks
-stop playing for 4-6 month
-repeat

i REALLY want the old system back so i just know my rank after every game instead of the dread of trying win 5 games just to not move or derank lmfao

Back in 2017 OW1, I sucked (as I still do) and knew that despite my passion and competitive drive, I just lacked the skill to really get to the highest level. Then in the summer games, they released Copa Lucioball. I happened to be the perfect mix of both a very highly ranked Rocket League player and Lucio main to where I was extremely good at it, and I finished top 500, earning a special animated spray. It wasn't anything amazing, just a little ball spinning around with spotlights crossing the sky in the background, but going into my plat lobbies and throwing it on the spawn door and having people talk about it with me and recognize that (admittedly unimpressive) achievement was just an awesome experience, not to mention the awesome community surrounding Copa itself. The following year, I had switched over to PC from console, and was very excited to get another animated Copa spray in 2018. I grinded it out, and had a great time, only to find out that for some reason the top 500 spray for Copa that year was just a different static spray, instead of an animated one, which was disappointing to say the least after all of the effort I had just put in. The year after that, I played a little bit but lacked the motivation to get onto the leaderboards, and that was the last time I played it before they took Copa Lucioball away. Small things like animated sprays and competitive Lucioball may seem small to the larger playerbase, but those small things can mean the world to a select few people.

Someone mentioned leavers, that's such an easy fix that it's absurd it hasn't been implemented. If someone leaves, everyone that wasn't queued with them will have no penalty. The leaver, and everyone queued with them, will receive a loss like normal. It makes it impossible to boost using that and it mitigates the negative effects of leavers.

I like Eskay's take on the servers merges.
Brazil used to have a dedicated server, but because of the players dropout it's now merged with the rest of SA. Now imagine being the only country of SA that doesn't speak spanish.

I'll say this once again(beating a dead horse) THERE NEEDS TO BE A SOLO ROLE QUEUE AND A PARTY ROLE QUEUE.

I think you can tell how disheartened people are in ranked with how quick people are to quit. I had three people leave in three different games all within one series

just bring back rank updates after every 5 games regardless of W/L and I think the mood of the competitive playerbase will improve dramatically

Nah, I genuinely have cards where I go 5-2 just to stay the same rank, or 5-3 and go down. Positive win rate should never rank me down.

After my placement matches last season I went 5-1 and stayed the same. I then went 5-2 and got deranked. 5-4 was the next card and it ranked me back up. This season after going 5-4 in placements, I'm 2 ranks higher than last season. It makes absolutely no sense to me. Also my support is at gold and I haven't played tank in ranked OW2. Yet when I play tank in unranked it puts me with diamond - top 500 players.

For ages now ive imagined what if you could display the heroes u play the most at the start of the match. Every person on ur team having chosen 3 heroes below their name in the hero select so at the very start you can easily set up a team comp and know what you could ask someone to switch to.

I wish sr comes back. Every game you get a number update whether you win or lose and showing sr number instead of top 500 for peak is better. It's better information and reflects your skill rating better.

This system is much worst no matter if they want to fix rank anxiety. Because most of the time, you don't know until you get an actual rank update. And tiers doesn't really tell you specifically where you are unless you get a rank update where the bottom text shows you. But after that, that's all you really know.
