Chappell Roan is not feeling pressure to endorse either Kamala Harris or Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential election.
In contrast to singers like Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish, who have publicly stated their stance on who they will vote for in November, Roan is not ready to make a similar move.
“I have so many issues with our government in every way,” she said in an interview with The Guardian. “There are so many things that I would want to change. So I don’t feel pressured to endorse someone."

When shit like this happens I'm reminded of one of the all time greatest Tweets:
"Twitter is the only place where a well articulated sentence can get misinterpreted. You can say "I like pancakes" and someone will go "So you hate waffles?" No bitch, that's an entirely different sentence."

It seems more embarrassing that people wait for celebs to tell them what to do.

If she quits the music industry in the next few years, I don't want to see ANY if these same Twitter accounts crying about not getting anymore more music from her🙅🏾‍♀️🙅🏾‍♀️🙅🏾‍♀️.

THANK YOU!!! The way she constantly gets set up, misquoted, misinterpreted is INFURATING. I'm so tired those big accounts on twitter setting her up for hate like this by not posting her quotes fully and only posting the negative things she says and get her a bad image when actually if you watch her other interviews she's a sweetheart. It's so sad seeing her get all this hate she truly doesn't deserve it.
And she literally said this on Kamala on her rolling stone interbiew it's pretty obvious who she will vote for, she just won't endorse someone publicly because she's not comfortable with them endorsing a genocide :
"Right now, it's more important than ever to use your vote, and I will do whatever it takes to protect people's civil rights, especially the LGBTQ+ community, " she tells me in August. "My ethics and values will always align with that, and that hasn't changed with a different nominee. I feel lucky to be alive during an incredibly historical time period when a woman of color is a presidential nominee.

Everytime Chappell says something people get mad

Thanks for adding context and clarity in the midst of everyone jumping to binary conclusions. For people who understand the nuances of leftist politics, it is very clear what Chappell meant. She also doesn't owe anyone any endorsements. We know where she stands.

"Famous pop singer in your mid 20s tell me how to vote or else" is crazy

I don’t really understand why we as people feel it’s necessary to know a celebrities political stance on things? Like unless if it affects them personally (like Chappell being in LGBTQ plus artist), but even if she doesn’t endorse Kamala, that doesn’t mean that she supports Trump.
I personally am not very fond of either Kamala or Trump. However, a lot of Kamala points from the presidential debate are a lot of things I agree with and would like to see implemented in our country.

As a leftist and a Chappell Roan fan, her “both sides” comment is both extremely grating and objectively true. It can be almost more frustrating to hear someone you generally agree with say something poorly than it is to hear the actual beliefs of someone like Trump.
Do I wish she had worded things differently? Of course, yes!
Do I think a huge part of the population have had a rage boner for Chappell Roan ever since she started getting popular and will twist anything she says to validate their low opinion of her? Also yes!

For me it was clear from the start she was talking about Palestine. Like... both candidates are gen0cidal. Period.
She has the right to be at discomfort with that. Whoever jumping to conclusions like oh "she is a trump supporter" based on out of context stuff is not only wrong but also stupid.

Loved this video, thank you! Nuance is super important and unfortunately a lot of what we see on the internet often lacks that nuance and context (and it’s unlikely that people will actively seek that out if it’s not provided).

So call me crazy, but I feels like a lot of people and news outlets are going after her specifically. Like you said, every month it feels like their’s a new controversy, and that’s mainly because what she says gets taken out of context. First it’s that she’s rude or unappreciative of her fans when she really just doesn’t tolerate stalker shit, and now this. And I think it’s also crazy just how many people are totally okay with just turning on her now, calling her drag her being a culture vulture, saying she’s lying about being a lesbian, etc. It’s like there’s been this underbelly of people who were just waiting for it to be cool to degrade her. It reminds me a lot of how people and the media treated Britney Spears. News sites waiting for any slip up they can spin to look bad, and people using that to ridicule her without even caring about it’s accuracy.

I’m also confused as to why? Like, why is this one quote suddenly either turning people 180 on her, or bringing out all of these haters who have been in the woodworks?

I love Chapell Roan, she ACTIVELY THINKS unlike most celebrities. She's aware that "the lesser evil" still ruin lives outside the US

chappell roan they could never make me hate you, no matter how much they are clearly trying to by taking everything she says out of context

It should not be controversial to say there’s “problems on both sides.” That’s factually true, these are politicians we’re talking about— they lie for a living.

i saw a tweet saying "it's weird how people have been yelling "free palestine" [of course rightfully so], but as soon as Chappell points out the genocidal views of both political parties everyone is mad at her" or something along those lines
