🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛About me
========================
Hi, my name is Tina and I'm a data scientist at a FAANG company. I was pre-med studying pharmacology at the University of Toronto until I finally accepted that I would make a terrible doctor. I didn't know what to do with myself so I worked for a year as a research assistant for a bioinformatics lab where I learned how to code and became interested in data science. I then did a masters in computer science (MCIT) at the University of Pennsylvania before ending up at my current job in tech :)

Antozent- they are selling around 150 self help books for the price of one (you’re welcome)

I hate going through self help books at a bookshop or even browsing online, they all seem to be exactly the same so this is so helpful.

The 3 books that changed my life and I would recommend them to anyone
1. Atomic Habits by James Clear ( great tips and tricks to staying consistent and productive)
2. Man's Search For Meaning by Victor Frenkel (really makes you appreciate freedom and being alive in general)
3. The Fifth Discipline by Peter Senge (It's about looking at the big picture and not stressing over the small stuff)

I also kinda approach some of these "scientific" self-help books with a bit of skepticism. I love science and empirical research, but in the self-help category it can sometimes feel like they're just trying to appeal to something to give their ideas more weight, even when the science isn't actually that rigorous. And then people look over the lack of rigor because they like what the book has to say.

I feel like this can lead some people to following sometimes-not-so-good advice with too much confidence, in part because they have the impression that something is scientifically backed.

I found your channel last week and kept checking your videos whenever i had free time. I love your videos. This video is one of my favorites because you can hear and see your enthusiasm and passion to gather and share knowledge. Thank you for changing my life and giving me new things to think of. ❤️

All I can say is WOW. This was so helpful. You covered some books I've read, some I've heard of, some I will now read thanks to your review, and some that I know to skip. Many thanks!

Re: Why We Sleep. I did finish it two years ago or so and while I like the "Go to sleep, it's good for you" message it ended up saying that any and all problems in your life are caused by lack of sleep, from anxiety, to weight, to cancer. It felt fear-mongering and later I read that other scientists found some serious data problems in the first chapter.
Sleep is good, yes, and I'm more careful about sleeping well now, but this book is not.

Thank you so much for this list! I once tried to get into reading but I ended up choosing a bad book and got turned off from reading books. I started Atomic Habits and I don’t even wanna put it down. I’m trying my best not to take TOO MANY notes. I’ve already gained some life changing insights on why I haven’t been able to succeed in certain things. Every few pages is giving me a breakthrough in my thinking. THANKS

My first book in the self-help space was Grit too! It was pretty motivating with plenty of great stories and sent me down the rabbit-hole of self-improvement/discipline. 4.5/5 from me

Love this review! So insightful and succinct. I’ve got a long list of TBR. This would be great as a continued series and/or by genre :)
