"During this time the Green Berets weren't well known to the public..." I guess he's never seen the movie "The Green Berets"

usually special forces guys encountering each other goes fine, they have mutual respect and usually they are the most professional soldiers. this has happened in Syria as well

70 year old man checking in. I was unaware of this event. Super interesting. As so many have already pointed out, if anything, the Green Berets were probably the most well known of all of our Special Forces at the time.

After 9/11 Putin worked with the USA and wanted to continue the relationship after things settled down. In fact Putin was open to joining NATO! However, the NeoCons (both Democrat and Republican) would have none of that business. China as a threat to the US was just a pipe dream. The Military Industrial Complex demanded a BIG enemy to keep the money flowing. Tag, Russia was it no matter what Russia/Putin wanted. Afterward agreements were made between Russia and the US that NATO would not expand but the US broke those agreements at every chance. The US has lied to Russia at every turn. This is what drove the current Ukraine/Russia conflict.

If they can get along on the GRUNT level why can’t they get along on the NATIONAL level

Two highly professional, highly trained units that would normally be enemies CAN work together for a common goal.
Think respect went both ways.

Honestly the idea of Russia as a US ally and them cooperating sounds very fucking cool to me
edit: to all the russian trolls, an idea of a Russia as it is right now being allied with the US doesn't sounds that cool, because it makes no sense, i'm talking about the Russia that was a US ally, the pro western and democratic Russia, stop talking about the fact that NATO denined Russia, it doesn't make sense for that to happen even when Russia is their ally, unless Russia would accept that it would be treated like the rest, it wouldn't be as important for NATO as the US, that's what Russia wanted

Reminds me of the film Air Force One where American and Russian special operations units worked together to raid a place in the opening scene. That's always what I wanted to see, soldiers and people in general from America and Russia or just on both sides of the fence in general to work together and achieve something. They have something more in common than they/we actually think, if politics, ideology and selfish leaders can be cast aside.

not a bad recap from my book. I'm the Giaconia he mentions. The pic at 4:54 also includes some Swedish rangers we ran into that day as we were making our rounds around the border. It was pretty amazing working with the Russians, one of the most interesting things I have done in my life.

My unit trained with Spetsnaz when I was in Special Forces. What a shame that our two countries cannot be allies, due to one man in power, we have a lot in common. Regards, Denis Berte' USMC/SF
