Green Berets and SBS rescue CIA Agents 💥 #shorts

In November 2001, 2 CIA officers Johnny Spann and David Tyson, arrived at a fort in Afghanistan to interrogate captured foreign Al-Qaeda fighters.

After 2 hours, some of the prisoners suddenly stood up and attacked their captors with concealed grenades, and the suicidal manor of their attack shocked the Northern Alliance, and the prisoners quickly overran and killed Span.

Tyson escaped but was trapped inside the fort. He used a satellite phone to call the US embassy and trigger a military rescue.

The response consisted of Green Berets, the elite UK special forces unit, the SBS, and a Navy SEAL Petty Officer. The Special Forces soldiers used a variety of tactics to try to retake the fortress, including airstrikes and artillery. Despite the heavy firepower against them, the fighters refused to surrender and continued to fight fiercely.

When the fort was finally recaptured 400 prisoners were killed and 86 were recaptured including American John Lindh who was later imprisoned.

One of the SBS operator had been recommended for the medal of honor for this action but it was downgraded to a navy cross because the moh can't be awarded to foreigners, navy cross DSC and AF cross are the highest medals given to foreigners from what i could read. Anyway every men on that op are total badass and, as a french, i have a deep respect for them

Don’t forget that MANY NORTHERN ALLIANCE FIGHTERS that were supporting the Detla team to rescue that One American were killed by the same airstrikes, and some other delta members were hurt as well. If this clip explained how it went down, and how many northern alliance fighters with lots of combat experience fighting Russia and the Taliban, had died in the hundreds from airstrikes hitting them directly, and/or way too close to even consider it danger close.

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the fact that an ODA, a SBS squadron, a SeAL and some air support killed 400 enemy fighters in an entrenched, fortified position and apprehended 86 of them. This is what they mean when they say "they don't want to stand and fight. They don't want an actual war. They can't stand up". That is a badass QRF op. I want to hear more stories about this one for sure!

Fun fact - the fight ended with Taliban and Al-Qaeda fighters in the basement of the structure and they wouldn’t come out. So they took hoses and tried to flood the basement and eventually they all came out and surrendered
