Green berets (I trained with them, I was Airborne beret at Fort Bragg) are assigned for a long term assignments like creating governments and/or replacing them as advisors/snipers/etc. Navy seals are short term assigned to objectives.

I've worked with both units. SEALs are definitely capable, but the Green Berets radiate intelligence. They just seem like a smarter unit.

A lot of difference between SEALs and SF, their mission sets are very different. SF primary role is integrating with and training up indigenous forces to fight alone, unafraid, and minimal support. So they have to be strong and highly competent fighters in order to teach, fight, survive, and be a force multiplier for the indigenous forces. During GWOT they have shifted the mission towards more of a direct action role. The typical Green Beret has 5-10 years experience in the Army, is likely Infantry/Armor/Combat Arms, but they do pull candidates from other Branches/MOS’s. They run them through a 3 week assessment/selection that weeds a high percentage out. Then over the next 8-20 months of training even more get weeded out.

SEALs have more of a direct action role and majority of their selectees are fresh recruits out of basic or in their first tour of enlistment in the Navy. Unlike the Army, there’s not much opportunity to get combat arm’s experience prior to showing up to BUDS.

FYI: SEALs have a higher drop out rate in training because the candidates usually have not been in a real stressful environment (most have just gone through Navy basic) while most people who try out for Special Forces have been either rangers, airborne infantry or another advanced unit and they’re typically older and more mature

This is such a comical argument. These 2 units are entirely different in their task and purpose of why they even exist. Do they have overlapping capabilities?? Of course they do but US Army SF are a force multiplier and have a lot more mission capabilities. Direct Action is only one. Seals are predominantly a Direct Action Force and used like a scalpel taking out Teir 1&2 targets. SF are more about the long term stability in a region in which they operate. Neither is better than the other. They are different units for different purposes and both serve a very valuable role in the defense of the United States and her interests around the world.

SEALs and GBs have very different mission sets. SEALS are primarily used in a direct action capacity while GBs can conduct direct action missions but can also wage unconventional warfare campaigns to accomplish a mission. GBs can legally do things (like buy them weapons) with foreign forces that really no other unit can do. A better comparison would be SEALS and Rangers. They conduct missions more closely Related to one another

We had SEALs come on our submarine and tell us they don’t know how we do our job and stay so resolute. We were a little taken aback by that. Everyone has a different challenge. Everyone sees the world a different way.

Neither "win" over each other lol. They're both some of the most highly trained and intelligent soldiers our military has. They have vastly different missions though. Navy seals do the SWAT style raids and that type of deal. Green berets are more big picture guys training resistance groups to fight for them and that sort of thing. Their missions are much more long term.
