You’re right about everything. Full-time is not worth it. Unless you have a partner that has health insurance, you’re screwed. Even part time is only worth it if you drive smart. Know your area and the best times to drive. Don’t pickup from any location that’s not ideal to maximize your earnings. In other words, don’t except every ride request. I personally, do not pickup anyone that’s more than 10 minutes from my current location. I’m satisfied just driving in the suburbs where Im averaging about 34 mpg driving my 2018 Civic (although I get a lot of destinations to the city).
Regarding auto insurance, the respective rideshare platforms are required by law to automatically cover you (although there’s a high deductible). And if you don’t report to your personal auto insurance that you’re employed in rideshare, you’ll be fine. But once they recognize that your mileage per year has increased significantly, they’ll automatically readjust your premiums. I used to pay about $135 per month using Allstate but now I’m paying $161 per month because they knew I was driving over 25, 000 miles per year.

When I met my wife I was working as a courier for a small local company. Much like Uber, we used our own car and were considered contractors. I made 70% commission on everything I delivered. There were months that I'd make $1000 and months I'd make $10, 000. The average was about in the middle of those numbers. My wife thought it was great money! She was barely making that as a University professor with multiple degrees. It seems like great money to most people. People didn't believe that if I had to wait for anything at any time during a delivery I got paid $1.50 a minute on top of the delivery fee. it wasn't all that great after you factor in all the stuff you mentioned. I was doing about 2-300 KM's a day five days a week. I killed some nice cars driving courier. But as you also mentioned, it was the freedom I enjoyed. I started work around 10am and worked till whenever I wanted (unless it was busy). I never worked on weekends and I took a month and a half off work every year. You're not stuck in an office or factory with a boss looming over your shoulder. I didn't have a lot of money but was never really broke. It was a good job for a young guy with no responsibilities. Great video Eddie

Love your videos pal ❤️
Uber just dropped the pay per mile on longer rides where they charge riders more than ever! And this happened in the middle of the current inflation and gas prices and cost of living are skyrocketing! Those companies are getting more and more greedy and the last thing they give AF about are drivers

Based on your numbers, you will put 138, 048 miles on your car in TWO years! (working 48 weeks/yr). The four weeks I consider time off or vacation, which there is no vacation pay. There is no way you will pass an inspection after one year hitting potholes thousands of times without thousands of dollars of repairs. Tires last 40, 000 miles if you are lucky, and you better get new tires twice a year to pass an inspection (69, 000 miles a year = buying tires two times!). And you better buy tires right before the vehicle inspection if you want to pass. The inspection is also a scam on many levels, which I will not get into now. Then, add to the fact you are replacing your car every two years!! (138, 000 work miles + 36, 000 personal miles = 174, 000 miles). You are going to spend zillions on repairs just to pass the inspection. Your car will be worth absolutely nothing, and you might as well buy a new car EVERY TWO YEARS. If you are buying a used car, you can double the repair costs. This is just short-term money. Any money you make will be taken right back from you in a year or so in the form of taxes, repairs, costs, retirement savings, health insurance, car replacement, depreciation, etc. You can go get a $18-$28 job easily without having to sacrifice an entire car every other year and spend it all on costs. Last, without considering tires and brakes, oil changes alone would occur at the rate of 17 to 25 oil changes a year !

Lot of Uber and Lyft drivers focus on their earnings but definitely agree that another way to earn more is to lower your expenses! I feel like taxes and tracking all your deductions is the best way to do it.. IRS just increased the mileage deduction too and if you're really aggressive here, you can get a huge deduction from miles alone. Not to mention when you add on all your other expenses, your taxable income should be close to $0!

I don’t think you can write off business meals. Unless you’re having a meeting with your client. Or driving to another city and getting stranded there for the night

Eddie, I'm feeling it too. I work at an insomnia cookies, and they don't pay mileage. I actually just yesterday went to finance a prius, and with the gas I'll be saving from 25 now to 50 mpg ill save more cash than I'll have to pay on the prius. Got my volvo on backup but not a good delivery car.
