Proper air pressure in the tires is huge in getting optimum gas mileage.

Regular maintenance is the key to anything lasting a long time. I work in a manufacturing plant where our jobs depend on regular maintenance to succeed in our market. Downtime cost a whole lot more than regular maintenance does with cars as well as anything else that moves. Thanks Scotty.

I'm kinda surprised you didn't mention oxygen sensors. If I'm thinking correctly, a weak oxygen sensor can affect gas mileage.

You’re right on the dot for this one Scotty. I can attest to this myself with my 2006 BMW 325iA. It’s amazing how people don’t realize too changing fluids makes a significant difference. But one reason too is that people might also have to change their driving style. I changed mine and averaged 36mpg Highway from Charlotte, NC to Fredericksburg, VA in a car rated at 29mpg highway, and this was fully loaded as I was moving back from Houston (Willowbrook Area).

My best return though was the sensors. I always say between 85k to 100k is the time to change the MAF and O2 sensors near the cats. Plus around that mileage they’re just about worn out anyway, so some preventative maintenance can also help prevent any possible future damage to your catalytic converters.

As I said in another Scotty video - I have preached this for 40 years! But most of the time it falls on deaf ears! When the car breaks down most owners do not want to hear what they did wrong or what they could have done to prevent it! They only want to know 3 things - "Can you make it go?", "How much?, and "How long?"

Learn the art of COASTING! So many people are on the gas 100 yds before a stop, ridiculous!

Scotty is right.
I’m very diligent about preventative maintenance. Probably more than I need actually. My feeling are that a little spent on the front end actually saves much more on the back end. Every repair I do is back to spec.
Had a transmission expert tell me that he would be almost out of business if people would just follow the maintenance schedule.

Dont forget the EGR valve and O2 sensors. O2 sensors in my experience usually go out shortly after 100k miles no matter how good of a car it is. Those are 2 semi cheap and easy fixes Iv done on a few cars.

Buy the right car in Scottys mind; A Toyota celica, camry or corolla that's between 10 until 25 years old with no rust and costs below $1000.

Make a compilation of you mentioning how many miles your celica has.

Stumbled and found this site by accident. I suscribed. I've got a 10 year old Chrysler convertible. It's been a good car. The problem has been the 3 accidents. People love to hit it. Driver door replaced. Trunk area redone twice. Teagards...
