Are Hall Effect Keyboards Worth it? 🤔

Which keyboard sounded better? 🤔

Hall Effect Keyboard switches are becoming a lot more popular now and honestly there’s some pretty cool tech behind it. Just like controllers that have Hall effect joysticks (I wish more companies would adopt) Hall effect keyboard switches also use magnetic fields to detect keypresses.

This makes the keyboard much more durable and another cool feature is that you can actually manually set the actuation point of the keyboard presses, so if you wanted quicker inputs or less mistake inputs this would be a potential solution!

Keyboards in this video:

Keychron K8 Pro (Mechanical, Bought myself)
Keychron Q1 HE (Hall Effect, Gifted)

My bad yall! I normalized the sound in both clips of the keyboard, making the loudness similar when it’s actually a lot lower for the hall effect . I’ll post an update in another video!

If you want a long lasting keyboard, get you a Microsoft Standard 400 keyboard. I’m convinced these basically last forever

I have a dream that one day, a keyboard channel talks about hall effect keyboards and uses a rhythm game to showcase it instead of a shooter.

Oh my... the sound is an effect of using silencers like foams, body materials or even keycaps. Trust me, there are hundreds of ways to make a keyboard sound differently.
Halls doesn't last much longer than much cheaper optical switches. Hall effect switches allows to use keys as analogs, they can read how much the button is pressed and configure the action, like when the button will be activated, or more complicated macros like "W" when W is pressed slightly and "shift+w" when W is pressed completely.

I remember my blue switch, it's loud but I didn't know that the whole house could hear me typing.

I’m sure you hear this constantly all day every day, but in my opinion, your shorts explain tech shit, better than anyone. Thanks for all you do.

Honestly I like the loud noise that Mechanical keyboards have

The other advantage is you can customize the trigger point and other things on the switches to make them trigger and reset faster usually.

They definitely sound interesting for sure. Though, not gonna lie, one of the appeals of mechanical keyboards for me would have to be the heavier clicking sounds that you’d associate with them, in contrast to something like a chiclet keyboard.
