That XP logon was from an RDP session. The computer was another client on the wireless network ;)

Well said, very well said.
The only difference between a hacker and a security professional is a paycheck.

That's where the more specific term is "cracking".
Changing stuff is modding, but hacking is a broader category that includes bypassing or breaking obstacles without modding the contents.

Since when was Jobs a hacker? The Woz was/is a hacker and a phreaker. Jobs was just the guy who said "hey we can make money off of this". If it weren't for Woz there would be no apple.

Well sometimes a modifier must exploit a security problem (hack) in order to modify.
Right?

@XflamingX Not necessarily, there's distinct differences between Programmers and Hackers. Hackers don't have to be malicious... and usually hackers focus on less than 4 coding languages.

Hacking IS a crime unless it is officially allowed for safety purposes etc. Cybercrime is for money purposes that's the only difference. My question is: why would hacking not be a cybercrime as it is "a crime in cyberspace"?

It refers to one who is a master of Battoujutsu. It became part of the collective conscious because of Rorouni Kenshin (An anime that became very popular. I wasn't a huge fan, but it was a good show and worth a watch.) The english dub, I believe, incorrectly says that it means the "Man killer", which is silly but not unfounded as Battojutsu is the art of drawing and cutting a lethal strike in one motion.

unless they are a "white-hat hacker" who breaks into these accounts to expose weaknesses aka. computer security professionals. the ones that use people's accounts for their own personal gain are considered "black-hat."

@letueure22

Who do you think created that program?

70% of "Hackers" use programs found around the internet.

I think this issue arises because people label cyber criminals as hackers. They ARE hacking too, but they do bad things with what they can do.

I've been doing texture hacks for Super Smash Brawl for months now.

The problem is:hackers are also cyber criminals who are involved in identity theft and some are out to steal credit card information and your real identity.

In the real world:nothing is safe and i mean absolutely nothing as long as its connected to the internet.

This goes for:banks online games such as mmorpgs or email accounts hotmail yahoo gmail etc.

and a cyber criminal also steals information from other people's computers. some hackers hack into other people's computers to expose their weaknesses.

It's the difference between baseball and mugging people with a baseball bat.

@n00oob

No, you can not.

Phreaking was the process by which a person would send a tone(s) down an open line in the hope that the device at the telephone exchange would accept it as a command.

Modern phones still use Dial tones for the use of Key recognition, but they are not at all use for sending any commands of any nature (With exception to fax) to a telephone exchange device.

Also, phreaking had nothing to do with ripping a phone apart, and was originally performed using a simple toy.
