"use your common sense" I worked for a multi million dollar tech company doing deployment of tens of thousands of devices for some massive retailers and grocers. We were frequently tested with fake phishing emails that a certain % of employees had to report, if so many people didn't report it we'd have to take a security course. We took that course so many times in the 2 years I was there it was astounding. Shortly before I left we couldn't do any work for almost 2 months because we were hit with ransomware because someone decided to plug in a USB they found in the fucking parking lot.

In short, regardless of your safety mechanism, you are going to get hacked if they are really into you...

I work as an IT security specialist and one thing he didn't mention is always use a passwordless form of multi factor authentication for your accounts. And remember to change passwords atleast once a year. You need atleast 12 characters with one capital letter, one lower, one number, and one special character.

When I was working in corporate risk management, we would inspect people’s desks after hours. The number of Post-it notes we found under keyboards or on the backs of monitors with sensitive information on them was astounding.

Rule #1: don’t make powerful enemies

Rule #2: use your brain

1 - Make sure devices are updated (vulnerabilities are patched in those updates)

2 - Don’t click or open emails from unknown sources or people

3 - Trust web browser, if it says it’s not safe don’t visit

4 - 3 levels of passwords that have no personal ties such as pets name or children’s birthdays. The idea is to not have same or similar passwords across accounts and the level should get more complex the more important the account or website.

5 - Be cautious in public. If possible use own cell service instead of Wi-Fi, including personal hotspot. Don’t use public chargers.

If you have a push-to-start ignition, you need to keep the fob in a Faraday pouch. Or look in the owner's manual of your car and find out the procedure for turning off the transponder in the fob. It transmits **All The Time.** Get in the habit of turning it off when not in use. There are devices that can catch the signal from several yards away and clone your fob. They are becoming more and more common. You don't want to go into the grocery store and come out to an empty parking spot.

My browser tells me DOD sites are potentially unsafe...I tend to agree, but my CO says otherwise 😂

Extra tip : Don't install free anti-virus, just use the windows defender that comes with windows and as he said use common sense.

If there's one thing I learned from Runescape, it's that if it seems to good to be true it is.

Some ppl use ridiculously easy to guess “security questions” like “what’s your favorite color?” Anyone can figure it out after 6 tries.

the simplest one is to not click any link or 'button' which you're not sure about

Telling people to instal an anti-virus will inevitably lead people to downloading trojan horses lol

I think that the best way to be safe online is to try to think like a malicious hacker and planning accordingly.
