Hackers, Money and the Mafia. This is the story of the Carbanak Hack, the largest and most astonishing cyber attack the world has ever seen.

In 2014, cybersecurity specialists were alerted about a cyber attack on one of the biggest Russian banks, however, nobody could have guessed that they had just discovered the largest attack on financial institutions to ever be uncovered.

Many describe the events that surround the Carbanak attack as "Hollywoodesque", and this is absolutely correct. The story involves overconfident hackers, an intercontinental manhunt, the breach of the security systems of hundreds of financial institutions, and the robbery of over 1.5 billion US dollars, This is the story of the Carbanak Hack.

The fact that hundreds of millions of dollars went missing and nobody noticed just shows how much money and power these banks have. If I lose $5 I'm pulling out couch cushions, questioning the cat, the whole nine.

Never get too greedy... These guys had billions and still decided they want more and are still going at it. Props to them, literal geniuses to find a way in these banks with that level of security

Respect, it's an undeniable truth that banks can be considered as some of the most notorious criminals. When you entrust your hard-earned money to these institutions, they use it for their own investments, leading to the gradual depreciation of its value over time.

There at least two curious points regarding the way the hacker managed to get the domain administrator credential.
1. Installing a VNC backdoor is a pretty noisy behavior for the hacker, as this kind of remote access oriented protocols are either banned entirety within the Enterprise Network or usually heavily monitored.

2. When the IT staff troubleshoot the computer and type in their admin credential, that should not be the domain admin credentials. It'll be a major piece of security mis-operation if the IT teams are managing their PCS using domain admins. I'll be very shocked if a bank in charge of billions of dollars does that.

Phishing is the easiest way for hackers to access a network. Remember to be suspicious of emails and don't go along if you aren't sure.

Thoroughly enjoyed this video! I have seen many videos of different kinds of scams whereby people make a lot of money. Once the criminal(s) start taking money they can not stop. They are completely addicted to their scam and eventually get caught. Its best to quickly grab a bundle of money and disappear.

When I met my Ex-husband in 2006, he was a full-time video game player with 2-3 computer monitors on his desk. He knew how to tear apart computers and build them. Eventually he told me that he had $20, 000, 000 in an off-shore bank account that he had STOLEN through charging people's bank accts $0.50 fees. He said if you make the fee SMALL enough, no one would notice it. I thought he was just making it up so he could feel better about living at home with mommy and daddy at the age of 28. He said he had to wait 20 years before he could touch it so the statute of limitations would expire. He also always said he LOVED 'fishing'. But he never went fishing.

Props to the Taiwanese police btw they acted swiftly even though the case does not involves their banking systems nor government. Also I really don’t get hackers, I mean if they know their identities are almost compromised from when the bank found out but they already scored 10 million dollars, they could just split it for all of them and they would actually be set for life without any fear of getting caught

If it's electronic, and in anyway connected to a network, it can be hacked.

One thing I have deduced about the Hackers that nobody could is that they don't have a good taste in naming their groups.
