I had an iPhone 3GS and 4 before and never had any issues.

shoot I am having the same problem. and it's getting worse and worse.. it used to be only the far left side worked, but not anymore. It only works if you press that top button a hundred times on my iphone, it may work for unknown to me reason. it's really annoying!

Just sent mine to the centre. Now waiting for their response which will take up to at least 2 weeks .

Can I ask for a new iPhone if I have this problem ? My warranty is still working

The flex cable has a metallic contact point with another metal contact point stuck to the button itself. To fix this you have to open up the phone, remove the motherboard and then the bracket under the button and reposition the flex cable. Plenty of videos on YT showing how this is done.

mine was the same problem and now it completely stopped working

There is probably dirt/grime/gunk in your switch, just as it was for me when my powerbutton started acting up after about a year.
There is an easy thing you can try which worked for me, without opening up the phone or sending it in.

I had this same problem but then I recalibrated the home button and it fixed the power button as well. Just google "recalibrate home button" and it should work.
