iPhone 5 (5S / 5c / SE) Unresponsive Power Button Fix (75% Success Rate)

So I bought an iPhone 5 on ebay with a power/lock button issue. It only responds to some presses. Read guides and saw videos saying to use alcohol on the button. Thought id try it myself and post the results online. It actually worked and the lock button responds about 75% of the time I press it. Nice fix for those who missed Apples free button replacement program.

My button was 100% unresponsive no matter how hard I pressed or wiggled it. One (1!) alcohol swab and 15 seconds of rubbing and it’s 100% functional. Thanks!

It worked! My power button was totally irresponsible. I didn’t use any alcohol … just a couple of seconds with my finger, in a movement like in your video (side ways). As the iPhone is rarely used, I believe the button was just stucked! (In Portuguese:) funcionou mesmo sem álcool! Apenas friccionando lateralmente (em várias direções) com o dedo/unha, fez o botão funcionar quase de imediato. For anyone who doesn’t have alcohol prep pads an alternative is hand sanitizer and you can put some on a tissue and cover it with another tissue if you put to much on
