How to know if your chaining properly...
Every 5th encounter the current level will increase by ten then drop down 9 for the remaining 4 chains then jump back up 10 again then down 9 and so on...
Any disruption in this pattern means the chain has been broken...
If another pokemon is encountered chain is broken...
If a message of "pokemon could not be found" is displayed... Chain is broken...
Speculations of odds capping at a consecutive chain of 40 is current rumor being that has always been odds for all other methods! Note!!! Your search power is NOT your chain that's how many times you have encountered that pokemon by sneaking up on it... No one knows any other function that it has at this time. I have spent the last 12 hours working on this

well found a shiny on the second day the game came out, a shiny swablu (which im using to clear the game), and found out a few tricks, ill make an account and your webs site and post them but here they are
1: to continues a chain you much catch or knock out there pokemon (you can flee but that will only increse the search lv, and break the chain, still dont know how much search lv influences chances, but chaining seems to increase them more in addition to search lv)
2: if you can see a pokemon in the wild(such as the Wingull you find on beachs) you can abuse this buy walking by them, checking them with your dex nav (which increases your seach lv) and then going to another route or in a house/cave to reset them, then repeating untell you feel your at a good search lv (thanks to this i was able to have a search lv of 55 for swablu, while only backing to battle 10 in my chain

Hey everyone, so I can confirm shiny fish chaining is back. I just uploaded a 1 minute video on my shiny Wailmer finding and I was on my 36th chain only. Don't watch the video If you don't want to im not advertising, just want to say that if anyone is skeptical. I used an inkay from X and it was holding a smoke ball which i got from the trick house (after the 4th round). All we need is to confirm the Dexnav works. Happy hunting :3

Awesome, I can't wait to see how this develops as we find out more info. Kind of unrelated, but I actually encountered a shiny Makuhita yesterday, first time I went to Granite Cave. Completely random, but exciting either way.

Note if you run it will lead to the radar failing until you leave the area. Also hordes can raise the encounter rate. I used this to get about 300+ counts on Whismur. This raises the odds of the HA max IVs rare items moves ect. I am not sure if shinies have been confirmed w/ chaining however if it is It should be above 300....(haven't seen a shiny Whismur yet)

I...just cannot do it.... I'm looking for a Shiny Gible, but after the fouth pokemon on the chain, they get freaking fast and spawn 4 times for about 1, 5 second, and I can't managed to reach 'em in time because walkin in tiptoe takes an eternity and the stick is too sensitive! Anybody can give me a tip about what to do? I'm kinda getting frustrated

If you complete the national pokedex you can obtain an item that helps you encounter shinies, also a gold crown doesnt show you've caught them all. when you finish the groudon/kyogre episode the land becomes richer with life and energy thus revealing more pokemon and mega stones. Platinum crowns symbolize full completion of an area.

Justin, if you walk 20 to 25 steps the radar will work every time. It has a cool-down. Great video!

FYI, the golden crown in the high right corner on the dexnav is actually not indicating that you've caught ever single pokemon in an area, just the ones that are in the hoenn pokedex. When you have caught every single possible pokemon in an area, you'll see a rainbow coloured crown instead of a golden one

It seems as though when running away you dont find the pokemon right away on the next search button click. But when Justin fainted the Vulpix, the pokemon appeared directly afterwards on the next click. Helps support Justin's theory about needing to faint the pokemon to increase odds

Chain breakers: encountering any pokemon that aren't picked up by dexnav, leaving the area you are in, scaring off a pokemon, running away, the pokemon escaping.

An easy way to be sure your chain is not broken is to watch the levels of the pokemon you are looking for. Every 5 encounters that count toward the chain, the level of the pokemon will increase by 1. (if you are searching for pokemon that are normally level 30, after 5 encounters for chain you will see them all start appearing at level 31 and so forth.

i have something for the people who use dex nav for looking rare egg move pokemon. if you use the dowsing machine and walk a little bit, the black dots(pokemon) will appear more, but take it off once you are sneaking for it.
