I will say, if Chapter 4 ends up having a church dark world, that would actually seal the deal for me with chess theory. Next in line after a rook would be a bishop and the most obvious way to have a character represent a bishop in some way would be to have a darkner ruling over a religious themed world.

a rook makes sense in my opinion. In the french version of chess, it's called 'un fou', a jester if you prefer. Someone made to amuse you. If Tenna is some form of TV host (or TV themself), it makes sense for them to be the rook, as their role is to be entertaining

Would be funny if the chapter 3 villan added to the chess theory by having "Rook" as a stupid silly nickname they used to call them and just stuck around for long enough to still be used

Chapter 4: Bishop (possible DW location: church)
Chapter 5: Knight
Chapter 6: Pawn (you no longer play as Kris, you play as the vessel and you need to convince Kris to help you save the world)
Chapter 7: no idea LMAO

We have a grand total of 6 chess pieces
