Thanks. Good tip on companion plants. The soil biology for grapes, strawberries and berries is much more fungal dominant. Dr Elaine Ingham said we need a 50-50 balance of bacterial and fungal dominance to grow the best forage for pasture. And most veggies will like the soil biology to be bacterially dominant. Best mulch would be leaves from trees. Compost would be better with more brown than green. Need nitrogen? Feed coffee grounds to some worms in a bin.

I’m also clipping my dry branches for the new harvest.
My roots are encased as well, they don’t go out into the soil, let me break them up so they can.
Thank you!

first decent video about starting a grape vine that I've seen. Just needed to follow up with "what to do after the first year or so after planting".

I just bought a grapevine from Home Depot. It has 2 main branches from the trunk already, and then 2 more strong and tall arms from these 2 branches. They are all about 5 feet now. Do I need to prune 3 and keep only one as main trunk now? It will be hard to choose because they both are wood and same size.
I really enjoyed watching your videos . Thank you.

Do you add anything to the soil/hole like compost or such?

How come I grew 12 of mine last year and this year now. 4 of them dead. I dig it out to see and below on the bottom of the grapevine root is full of muddy water. Did I do something wrong? What should I do step by step? Thanks

There are several factors in how to grow grape vines in pots. One plan I found that successfully combines these is the Grape grower folio (google it if you're interested) definately the most useful resource that I've heard of. look at all the incredible info.

i bought a grape plant that looked identical to yours and i prunned it accordingly but the yeat after it did not grow? i noticed lots of what i think fungas gnats come from the soil when i watered. do you think the roots may have rotted during the winter or the bugs prevented it from growing? it was a concord blue grape
