Novice rider here, but isn't it a safety concern being on the bike while refueling? Admittedly a rare potential event to have fuel spill on a hot engine.

A few comments: Not all motorcycles have the filler in the middle. On a Harley, for example, the filler is on the right side. So you'd pull up so that the pump is to the right or you. I ALWAYS get off the motorcycle since if anything bad should happen you can react and move more quickly. With split tanks, you want the motorcycle to lean so that the lower tank fills first. The hose that connects the two tanks is small so don't be in such a rush to ride off. Fill the right tank and then check in a minute or two to see if it needs more. I ALWAYS drain the nozzle/hose before putting the nozzle over my motorcycle. Also make sure there are no leaks anywhere in the nozzle. More than once I've started filling my tank only to find that the fitting on the pump nozzle had a major leak. Looking on the ground to see if there are puddles of fuel there before you insert your cc is wise. I always worry that some unexpected movement near the key will cause it to snap off.... rare but if that happens you won't be able to ride off. As an aside, if I can get into the gas station without going through a mall parking lot I will definitely take that route. You rode through there pretty fast. You apparently are unaware that everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) operating a motor vehicle is an utter incompetent moron and/or drunk, drugged or on their cell phone. Stop signs mean a full stop, right? Someone mentioned nozzles that require a claw to pull back the hood to allow fuel flow. These can be purchased and attendants do have them. I just pull the thing back but some may have weaker hands. Some of the nozzle hood springs can be quite stiff. When filling I get my face right in there as now and then the automatic flow shutoff fails to work. This is illegal in some states but I fill that sucker right up to the rim. I also reset the trip gauge to zero so I have a better idea when I'll need to refuel. I don't trust fuel gauges. Don't mean to be nit-picky but I've been riding on a daily basis since 1962 and anything that can go wrong eventually will happen to you.

always get off your bike when fueling. A static spark can cause issues when you are on the bike and filling...Just my 2 sents...

In my country you are not allowed to fuel up whilst sitting on the bike

Never sit on your bike while refueling! It's a safety issue, petrol stations here won't start the pump if you're on your bike.

Also I don't get so close to the pumps because if you take a look at the ground there is always a lot of excess diesel spillage up close to the pump and its usually much drier where the middle of vehicles sit

ALWAYS PUT OUT THE SIDESTAND FIRST! Also better to fuel from the right as when the bike hits the ground you are not wedged in between and also look for fuel spills on the ground.

Only good if you have that style of pump. Many of the ones in California have the safety trigger built into them which makes it a pain to fuel up.

I wish bikes had same gas filler necks as cars (i.e, put the nozzle the way in and it will automatically stop when full).

Best timing for filling up gas is morning because of low temperature fuel will be densely packed

Cards are so old fashion every gas company has an app now 🤯

Totally different pumps in California. You have to pull back the rubber on our pumps or it woke work .

I fill it with the most expensive one for better performance and octane.

Ha!
That was my “home” gas station for 12 years til I sold my house recently. At end of video you were just about to pass my old house.. thought it looked familiar right away.
Be safe & maybe I’ll see you out there!

That appears hazardous and remnds me of an over the top balancing act. Mine is 560 pounds top heavy, and I could not imagine swinging it between my legs while reaching for the Gas Pump and [performing a credit card function. And then to be prepared for the flow of gas into the tank; and by the way how is your balance from moment to moment?

I have a Honda 750. Once unmounted, my biggest challenge is to get my bike up on the center stand at the gas pump where then the tank is level for correct filling. Once that is set, just using common sense can help assure that things are uneventful. If on the reserve the tank is going to be much lighter, so also easier to get up on the center stand. .

I ride a Vespa 300GTS scooter. gassing up is always an adventure. they have a little trough around the gas cap (ender the seat) to allow for spillage that drains into a filter. because there is ALWAY spillage. to keep the gas from going into the storage area in front of the tank, you put the cap vertically under the edge of the storage bin. the pump handle must be squeezed very gently so a gentle dribble goes in and even if you do everything right and watch the pour like a hawk some gas invariably splashes up. Vespa even sells a spout extender that you screw onto the opening when getting gas to minimize the shower. I'm not a klutz. there are videos about this on the web because of the ubiquity of the problem. Viva Italia!

Hey I appreciate it! I’ve been wondering if I was doing anything wrong. Good video to de-mystify the process like you said.
