Filling up a motorcycle is NOT the same as filling a car with gas. I learned this the hard way. Here is an in-depth guide to help fill up your motorcycle! Hope this helps. This may vary by motorcycle & by region.

Another tip is to reset your trip meter to zero so you know how many miles you’ve travel. Much more reliable than a fuel gauge

A few more tips:
1) Pull up with the pump on the left of the bike since the bike leans that way. Makes it so you don't have to lift the nozzle up in the air so high.
2) If you're filling in the rain, wait for a pump with a cover overhead to avoid getting a bunch of water in your tank.
3) No need to tip the bike level to get an extra ounce of fuel in there. You're just asking to spill gas on your junk if you're getting on and off the bike with the hose. Also, some gas is going to leak through the breather in the cap and out the overflow anyway if you overfill.
4) Keep the metal part of the nozzle in contact with the filler neck to avoid static sparks. Extremely rare, but it could happen.
5) Give the throttle a nice blip when you start back up to let the spectators know number six is coming.
6) Be sure to pull a clean ass wheelie on the way out of the station to get all the new gas mixed up with the old gas.

Three more things .. touch the metal part of the pipe with the brim of the tank to avoid any electrostatic discharges, and secondly, make sure to not let any water get in by covering with your hand or getting to one with a shed and don't let gas escape(in form of vapors) by covering with your other hand.

That's good to know if I go to Cali lol we only have a metal spout no boot on it but I'd do the same if I was somewhere it had the boot

iso-heet isopropyl alcohol will take care of the water in your tank. I recommend going up to premium when you use the iso or before you park it for awhile.

Also premium gas for example shells 🐚 premium 93 octane nitro has additives and detergents that keep carbon from building up and has lubrication so that your valves and piston, piston rings, bores ect… don’t wear as fast . So it’s definitely worth paying for the premium gas if it has additives and detergents

Weird, we don't have these rubber boots on our pumps anywhere in Australia that I've ever seen

Looks like the fuel colours are totally the opposite way round to the U.K. black diesel green for unleaded

Can you talk about your go-pro camera? I am thinking about getting my own and show where and how I ride, ya know.

600cc+ higher octane 100% increase performance.

Higher octane fuel the better. Don’t take my word for it. Check your spark plugs running it in 87 compared to 93 octane. Less fouling = less carbon buildup around the valves better performance in the long run.

What you may not realize is sometimes using lower grade fuel can void warranty. I know most people who loves BMW or Mercedes who use 87 got their warranty voided as soon as dealer checks the fuel quality. Check with your manual before using lower grade is my suggestion.

4.55 $ per gallon is draining your pocket?? We in India pay 120rs per litre of petrol. Which is 1.58 $ for 0.264 gallon of petrol. To boil it down, we pay 5.98 $ per gallon! And sure they call us a poor country

Octane rating is just a measure of how good that gas is at not knocking. Knocking is when the air-fuel mixture is compressed so much that it reaches the fuel's auto-ignition temperature, which may cause it to ignite. If it ignites by itself - separately from the gas being lit by the spark plug - when the two flame fronts (those of both the self-ignited and spark-ignited gas) collide, they cause shockwaves which can damage parts of your engine. The manufacturer will tell you the lowest octane rating your engine can handle. Naturally, higher compression engines and turbocharged engines will need higher octane gas, as they will cause the air-fuel mixture to reach its auto-ignition temperature faster.

TL:DR: You can use higher octane gas in your engine, but it won't do anything. However, using lower octane in your engine than what the manufacturer says could damage it.

I can honestly say that I wouldn't have realized you need to lift up the rubber boot because none of the gas stations I have ever visited in my life have had that. Thank's for the heads up!

Lifting up the rubber boot thing to enable the pump is the key thing, at least for CA. Great tip! I failed to gas my new motorcycle and had to make a 2nd trip to the gas station after seeing this video and then it worked.

fill up my bike about twice a week, still felt compelled to watch. glad i did because if i'm ever in a situation where gas stations have this odd boot, i'll know what to do! Here in the southeast i've never seen one.

LOL. This exact thing happened to me when I first got my bike.
