Been going to Sarge’s for a long time. Personally, I wouldn’t call it better, just different. They slice theirs a bit thinner and it has a a slightly denser texture while Katz’s slice theirs thick and is a bit looser in texture. I hesitate in calling one more tender than the other as I don’t think it’s accurate in what I’m trying to describe, both are more than adequately tender. Just boils down to personal preference. As much as I hate the fact it’s a tourist trap, I still slightly prefer Katz but can’t go wrong with either.
Also, Sarge’s deli Wellington ftw!
Damn, I remember back in the aughts, they used to be like $7-8!

Used to work nearby Sarge's and ate there often. Addictive. Don't forget the Dr Brown's Cel-Ray Tonic to wash it down!

You have to try this place in Edison New Jersey called Harold’s New York Deli! I went there with my parents this past weekend and their pastrami sandwich was delicious, I didn’t even eat it but a competition between Katz Deli! Give it a shot

Sarges is one of the greats. My favorite pastrami sandwich was at the Stage Deli on 54th. It’s closed years ago tho.

Pound for pound, Katz's Deli is the best. They knife cut the pastrami and thier mustard is second to none.

2nd ave deli is our fav when we come. I did Katz back in the 90s when I was in my teens. Now that I’m an adult in my 40s I prefer 2nd ave. However will be trying sarge next trip.

I miss Carnegie deli. Easily get a pastrami sandwich for 16 dollars ten years ago. It was massive plus with a side of coleslaw and pickle.

We're flying in on the 3rd of Oct for a 3 week cruise. Our Hotel is 12 miles away, but we're going to Uber to this place to try it out.

You have to try the Fish Market. The best fried fish in NYC.

Agree 100%! best pastrami or cornbeef sandwich in New York, And great fries too. It's thin sliced and thus more juicier, more flavor, exactly as it should be. Katz's is thick and chunky, less flavor, It's all a bunch of hype over there. Go to Sarges or 2nd Ave Deli, both far superior to Katz's.

This is probably more easily accessible (far less wait time) than the tourist packed Katz deli.

I lost my taste buds from Covid, but I'd still eat this because 1. It's Jewish (I'm a Christian) 2. The texture is probably amazing 3. It's gonna fill me up for the day to the point I can skip Dinner.

Over the years, Katz became too much of a tourist attraction and the quality fell down

“So tender in flavor” - when you don’t know what you’re saying but we all know what you’re saying
