As someone who is nordic, it's not about the gesture (which can be nice), it's about the expectation. In our culture, everyone should be able to stand on their own feet, and expecting something superficial can be seen as stupid and selfish.

lol I feel like no one is talking about how Norway ranks second globally when it comes to closing the gender pay gap. So women are generally earning close the same as men, in that situation I can understand why 50/50 split would be more reasonable.

Sadly, this is the exception to the rule. Start paying all women the same as men and you can get your 50/50. It’s basic math.

Love it. Despite them not admitting it, most American women DEFINITELY believe in having the man as a provider. This is taken to cartoonish levels in Eastern Europe + East Asia (thinking Mainland China mostly).

Between someone who relys on 1 income and an equal partner, I am definitely the latter. I want someone who is honest and is able to contribute herself.
