How I Fixed My Awful Acoustic Guitar Tone

Going over how I was able to salvage some semblance of warmth from an acoustic guitar using just it's electric output with a preamp/DI/eq unit. This specific one is an Orange Acoustic Pre Twin Channel, for more info on it, check it out here:

Also take a look at the guitar solo master class I did with my guy Ian:

A little about me:

Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
He plays and teaches guitar on his YouTube channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.

These "How to Gig" videos are great. Everybody on YouTube is building John Frusciante's pedal board and wet/dry amp setup. Nobody is showing how soundcheck a Mexican restaurant for a Friday night gig.

I assume it's youtube that's sounding crappy and clipping, but generally still sounds plasticly to me, I have the same guitar and love the sound through my fishman acoustic amp.

This has solved my sound issues. Already had a play acoustic pre-amp but killing the treble has made it sound far better through a pa. Top man.

Great stuff!!! Even just at low volume at home, with dedicated acoustic amplifiers, I always seem to find myself fighting with the harsh crunch and or peizo quack. My usual fix was slightly lowing treble, droping the mids out and boost the bass. Then typically begins the microphone feed back issues, never occurred to me to drop the treble and the mids to make the bass naturally stand out in the mix!!! Very smart, that looks like a fantastic peice of equipment orange amps are usually not in my wheelhouse unless I'm reaching for an electric

Thank you for this video. I was trying to get my Martin DX sounding good while recording at home. This video helped me out a ton! Cheers!

Sounds awesome buddy. The acoustic guitar live sound is a Holy Grail but this preamp sounds great!

I have that very same GPCPA4 Martin guitar. I run it through the Bose Tonematch T1 mixer to a Bose L1, Model 2 tower with a B1 bass module. It sounds terrific. The mixer (four channels) lets me shape the sound however I want, including modeling the specific instrument, mic, etc., being used, and does a good job of getting rid of piezo quack. It also features effects such as reverb and compression. I'm aware that you can't connect a bass module to your compact system, which would really help the low end, but you might want to try out the made-for-the-L1 Tonematch mixer. (Another nice thing about the Tonematch is it's tiny and can be easily mounted on a mic stand.)

I use Matons which solved a lot of my problems. But I totally agree with taking the treble out and sweeping the mids for the sweet spot. To my personal taste your mids need a touch more brightness.

4:18 sounds like highpass with real hard q i love it, this is excellent effect for breakdowns or intros, use your toes to bring those back down after intro

Your lyrics are usually great! Today's were especially awesome. I wonder how your new arched top guitar would sound through that pre.

I approve of and liked this video....in spite of what I said yesterday about some other video done in the (distant?) past.

Good ideas. Great help. My personal taste however is just loose the acoustic guitar. Good vid. Thanks.

Looks like your Martin could use a little repair where the sides meet the dips on the top and bottom of the front of the guitar.

If my setup would sound anything close to that (with a Martin, btw!!) I would give up . Truth is that a simple fishman preamp direct to mixer sound way better.

One suggestion...LR Baggs Anthem pickup. It’s a game changer. Straight in the Bose L1 and it’s amazing.

LR Bags session DI would clean up that tinny sound really well I think. This seems like overkill for such a nice martin. The saturation and compression really helps shape the sound.
