I’m a female INFJ and my partner is a male INTP. This video is accurate but doesn’t explain how magnetic we are to each other. We have a lot of fun together and even when we are mad we can’t help but laugh. His nature helps to lighten the mood because he doesn’t take himself so seriously. As a matter of fact he is willing to do almost anything to make me laugh. We work together in his business and it’s amazing to watch him work... his brain is like a machine. He’s a fun loving, adventurous, intellectual... perfect for me because I appreciate variety, deep engagement, and creating movement in life overall. We both don’t like stagnation and are both willing to shake things up. It is a really weird feeling that we can coexist together for a long time and be comfortable but outside each other we don’t think we’ve ever met people like each other.

Neither of us are superficial and we both value authenticity. We are both modest and private in some aspects. We also have a way of looking at each other and just knowing which helps in social situations when we feel it’s time to go or we detect someone selling us something that is not worth it or feels shady.

Now the differences and navigating/compromising those differences can be excruciating and painful. He has a tendency to downplay my need for control/stability and my aversion to too much life chaos and I have a tendency to wound his ego and challenge his identity. Those two major differences means a lot of understanding about HOW we are communicating and about WHAT in fights. For instance, I can be saying, “look the relationship needs this... it can’t survive without it... when this happens I notice you do this... maybe we can do this instead”... he hears “you’re a bad person because you did this bad thing that cause all these problems” and then he says that and I say “we can’t even get along... what does you not being a bad person have to do with the relationship being out of whack!? We both have things we need to tweak to make the relationship work better because right now being single seems more appealing than a relationship”. See the identity versus control component?

I (INFJ) just found out my friend since elem school is INTP. We have many 2-3 hour conversations on the phone or in person talking about society or patterns of our lives that relate to society. It's bad for me because it sets my friend bar way too high. Meanwhile he can make nondeep friends easily...I struggle with that but I hope it's possible as an INFJ to make various nondeep friends bc that's my next goal.
