When I was learning the basics of linguistics, this was one of the things that were pretty hard to understand. However, Jana, my/our tutor, came up with this IMHO brilliant way of explaining how these who fields "phonetics" and "phonology" work together. This is why I created this video. So, Phonetics deals with phones and allophones whereas Phonology is about phonemes of a particular language? Got it.

I think what you explained is different variants of a phoneme, not allophones of it. For it to be allophones there'd have to be some kind of complementary distribution rules.

correct me please if i didnt get it right
so basically, I understood that /r/ or /r/ phoneme is the idea of sound /r/ and phones [r] (im too lazy to look for actual allophone symbol) is the actual or application of the idea of sound which are nuances of /r/???
/r/ = idea of sound?
[r] = application of sound?

Thank YOU ! Like, i don't understand. Am I dumb, or am I supposed to understand these basics first before attending college? I was hoping to LEARN the basics at college. My teacher be acting like i hear these words at daily conversations.
