I wish I would have heard this term, 45 years ago. "Domestic church" I used to use bad language, if I lost my temper. About 8 years ago, I gave all bad language up, for Lent. I was very surprised, when I asked for help, from Our Lady, it was incredibly easy . It never returned. I never picked it back up.

Salve Maria!
Thank you for this excellent counsel. It is a great time to examine our homes and start the New Year as a strong faithful Catholic and not be swallowed up with this world.

One of the Catholic Charities I donate to give dream catchers as gifts!! I never knew that they were taboo since a Catholic charity were sending them. Perhaps someone needs to tell them to stop sending out forbidden objects!!

So true! As a little child I used to be so dependent on superstitions for peace and all it did was give me anxiety! (Four leaf clovers, dream catchers, shooting stars… 3etc!) when I got older I became more dependent on Mary for security and I have had so much peace!!!

Thank you so much Father for this very important topic. May all parents of our Catholic families teach their children according to the Word and Love of Jesus so that our world can change and return to Jesus Christ and to Holy Mother Church.
God bless you all.
With love and wishes for a holy and beautiful Chrstmas from a Catholic who loves the Jesus and the Catholic teachings, South Africa.

In prineble, yes. As catholics, we do to take a stand against all that us evil, in this world. It is through abstaining, servitude, and sacrifice, that brings us, and those around us, closer to God.

I never thought about some of these things! 😮 It's a great reminder that our environment can either strengthen or weaken our connection with God. Let's make our homes places of prayer and holiness. ✝🌿

1. No amulets! (Why would I want a tribute or symbol of an idol?) But I truly doubt anyone had faith in their pet rock. No Tibetan bracelets, Buddha bookends, dream catchers, evil eyes, Disney trash, Ouija boards, Taylor Swift junk, bad music, movies, books, etc. I did have a funny rock from the beach made into my father’s head, his face drawn with marker, glued on crew cut and tiny paper sailor’s hat. It was a Father’s Day gift for a paperweight! I wouldn’t want a bear claw or tooth, but even if I did, it’d be nothing more than a hunting trophy. I have several turkey, pheasant, and seagull feathers that I found. But again, NOT amulets! I have my father’s Rosary and a great, great grandmother’s Miraculous medal. I cherish them, but they aren’t good luck charms!
2. Profane language. My parents, Dad especially, hated profanity. Who ever used it growing up had to taste the top of the dish soap bottle and recite the Divine Praises. If there was no repentance, we got smacked or other corporal punishment, age appropriate. If we blasphemed God, Jesus, Mary, saints, then we were brought to Confession.
3. Online media. No, I hate profanity or porn, anything suggestive of impurity. I have nothing of that. If I happen to see or hear it, I delete, go away, close my eyes, whatever is needed to get rid of it. Leave a young girl or boy with free reign online, you may as well invite a few pervs from the sex offender list into your home to babysit your kids. I don’t have a TV set. Not since 1982! We had a tiny b&w TV w/rabbit ears when I was growing up. It was in parents’ bedroom and got four channels. We watched very little.
4. Friends? I have only one close friend since four of them passed away since 2019. My one friend lives 1, 000+ miles away and doesn’t have internet or even a smartphone. I’m pretty much on my own, not having even the Mass. I have a priest who comes by every six-eight weeks for the Sacraments. I’m a senior on a very low fixed income. I cannot move. Better no friends than bad friends. My area is sparsely populated and not at all Catholic! I’ve never had many friends. I just never really fit in, and when I realized why, I was unwilling to do what was required, to join a clique to the exclusion of others.
5. Immodest fashions. Not a problem. At my age, I have nothing to show off! I never liked unfeminine, sloppy, revealing clothes. As a child and young adult, I often got teased and rejected by others for not wearing and not liking certain clothes. Once I hit about 45-50, nobody said anything. Starting in grade 7, if someone made snide remarks to my face, I’d reply, if you don’t like what I’m wearing, don’t look at me, ” and walk away. So far as what others wear, I usually mind my own business. In most cases, silence is better than a rebuke.
