Diesel??? Ok…hear me out. This new 2024 Toyota Tacoma with the 2.4 inline 4 turbo engine sounds like a diesel! It also feels like one too with your max torque of 317 coming on at a very low 1700 rpms.

Sadly our government won’t allow diesels here in the Toyota trucks like they sell around the world and get upwards and over 40 mpg. Our politicians are too invested in $$$$ OIL $$$$.

Yea I wish if they put the Hilux diesel motor in there, but unfortunately not feasible with all the strict EPA emissions here

They probably do it on purpose because most truck buyers love the sound of a diesel. Even the current gen Taco sounds like a diesel during certain engine cycles. (Car & Driver called this out I believe)

T24A engine replaces 2TR and 2GR.
1GD and 2GD are diesel and will most likely never be available in the US. Customer base for small diesels is statistically nil and it wouldn't make sense to import a more expensive engine than one produced locally.

Be the smartest thing Toyota could do is put a diesel engine in the their Tacoma and Land Cruiser for the US market. Especially in the trailhunter.

It's in direct injection mode... Atkinson cycle... It does this to self clean... Sounds awful at times

Engine it is way to a small for such a big and a cargo vehicle as Tacoma
