I bought a 2023 6cyl Sport Aug 2023 (had a 2020 2.7L ).. Because the 4 banger turbo scared me & had to jump before all the 6's were gone..I test drove a 2.4T 4banger turbo sport in 2024. Nice truck. Felt kinda like my 23 sport 4 dr BUT every time I stepped on the pedal the turbo spool'd which is probably normal. I didn't care for that noise..I returned to the dealership & said no thanks.. I thought I was gonna bring home a new truck, as it had features I liked very much.. I will wait & see how they do as they get high mileage before I purchase one.. I will buy a full size & use the Tacoma as a 2nd vehicle. Maybe even go for the Hybrid Pro.. But I will wait OR buy another brand truck

That sounds like compressor surge to me. Basically where the compressed air after the turbo starts flowing back out of the turbo when you lift off the throttle due to the throttle plate closing, causing a boost spike.

My F150 Ecoboost used to do it when I had a very aggressive tune on it and would lift off the throttle quickly at low RPM, high boost.


I dont think it should do that.
