"What in the case of an asteroid hitting Taiwan?"
"What? I don't understand how is this related to the current situation..."
"Yeah no I'm just saying... if it happens it would be a big mess..."

It was rather odd to keep pressing the interviewee about a topic he clearly stated he knew nothing about.

TSMC makes 90% of the worlds top chips. So it is a loss for the entire world not just China.

Advanced semiconductor manufacturing is not an ordinary manufacturing industry. It's not the kind of business any factory can produce by building a factory. Instead, semiconductors are more like a production method for scientific research and development. Otherwise, Intel has had a solid foundation for making semiconductors for half a century but still cannot produce advanced semiconductors and has to entrust TSMC to create them.

6:20 What's wrong with the host? What kind of info he tried to get with that question? How much additional disruption can it get?

How about what if Chinese satellite landed wrongly in Taiwan? How about a volcano erupted in Taiwan like it did 720 millions years ago that birth the island? What if Godzilla suddenly decide to visit Taiwanese chip factory just for giggle?

I was in Taiwan in 1999 for the earthquake. It woke us up in the middle of the night. I had nightmares for years after that. As for the semiconductors, the chips that were partially processed had to be thrown away in mass as their quality was compromised. It took a while to get those orders made up and put new orders on hold.

The earthquake question is so incoherent in this China-Taiwan tension. I’m just as dumbfounded as the expert. The anchor could have used the precious airtime to ask more pressing questions.

Yes. China just make Taiwan more and more indipendent.

The CCP never controlled Taiwan (Formosa). This is about energy, security and national pride. The CCP can't have a prosperous, democratic, mostly Chinese (ethnically) State 100 miles off it's southern shore.

You forgot to mention global warming, and how it would affect the China-Taiwan conflict. And the Amber Heard Johnny Depp case. What are the knock on effects and how will this detriment Taiwan?
