Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard has left the gaming industry wondering what's next for multi-platform games like Overwatch, Call of Duty, and more. Sony has chimed in with a statement, expecting Microsoft to honor previous deals for Activision's existing games. While Call of Duty: Warzone will almost certainly remain available on the PlayStation 5, what does this deal mean for future Call of Duty titles? Activision has also confirmed that existing games won't be removed from other non-Xbox platforms, so don't worry, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy isn't leaving the Nintendo eShop anytime soon. And finally, we've got more on Ubisoft's upcoming Rainbow Six Extraction.

No company would spend $70, 000, 000, 000 and not have a competitive advantage. People are just in denial

would be funny if Microsoft do a commercial with Crash bandicoot outside Sony building the same way sony did with Nintendo

Didn’t sony say back in the day it wouldn’t want cross platform??

You know what would make me happy? Sony going into that back catalogue and bringing back some of those bangers along with their current amazing stuff.

So the contract essentially could only be with already released games. Any future games Microsoft can do as they wish exclusivity wise

Everyone in the comments section is apparently an expert on the topic.

Goes like this
*Not pulling any titles that have already released
*Already released titles, will still be available
*Any agreed future releases will proceed as already agreed
*Future titles that have not been contractually agreed… have not been contractually agreed, so could be exclusive or not

tbf as a Sony fan who don't play any Activision blizzard games, I'm just happy that when Microsoft are getting stronger, Sony is never in comfort zone.

People in 2022 can't understand simple English, Phil spencer said "honor existing contracts" and "Keep Activision games on ps", keep as in the old games, never said anything about new upcoming games. You can't "keep" what's not already there lol he's talking about warzone and overwatch..etc it's a really really simple English

Sony wants Microsoft to share when they're the kings of not sharing with anyone. Funny how you only care when it affects your wallet

Would we be having an out cry like this if Sony bought Activision. There is no way in hell that COD would appear on Xbox again.

Phil Spencer Tweeted, Xbox has no "desire" to take CoD off of Playstation. However, this can be interpreted many ways, just like the statements he made prior to the Bethesda, deal going through. And look what happened: All BGS games are now Xbox exclusives, but available day one on Game Pass. So, some analysts believe this is a power move by Xbox to force Sony (and eventually Nintendo) to put Game Pass on their consoles in exchange for allowing them to keep CoD on Playstation. Nobody knows if this is true, but it makes sense. IF this is Xbox's underlying strategy, it's a stroke of business genius and we'll just have to see how it pans out in a few years.

So does this mean call of duty might appear on gamepass?

If so then that would be pretty neat, would save me having to waste money on a call of duty game again after the uh... interesting experience with vanguard.

See what Microsoft should do is have it in a contract for future titles that can be an exclusive title for Xbox by allowing any future activision/blizzard games be allowed for PS if Sony would agree to a 10% of sales of each title sold for PS. Sony can do the same. That way everyone gets the games they want and both companies make money.

So buying publishers, price goes premium, so more likely the goes 3x. From the original market cap.

Sony - we build games
MS - we buy games

Not played COD since 2012, Black Ops 2. After that cod died.

So now Sony has to fork enough money to get Gamepass on PS5.

Sony doesn’t need third party games. Same as Nintendo.
