I love how mergers of companies are the completely opposite to what you would expect them to say. The rivals are all like "don't let them merge these companies are to big and make to much impact around the world" and the merging companies are like "I mean these companies are pretty shit and don't really do anything interesting or unique"

We know that if Sony had bought activation they would have zero issues with call of duty being exclusive

Sony usually don't say much about their competitors. So the real take away is that It kinda shows how much they think CoD drives sales of hardware and/or subscriptions to their "we hold your internet hostage" fees of gold/plus.

I'm firmly in the camp that says exclusivity is generally a bum deal for consumers, they should be available on the widest range of platforms possible

console, PC, mobile, whatever (also in this case Microsoft can just rake in the money farming COD out to whoever wants)

I just wish that after ten long years of mergers and other dramatic happenings our consumer rights had gotten better

Sony being mad about Acti-Blizz buyout while actively pushing to purchase Square-Enix is the dumbest shit ever.

What about when Sony did things where Sony got call duty content before others.

I really love it when these videos release during the night in my time zone - that way, I get to watch 5-minute Gaming News first thing when I wake up, and it helps me get my day started 😊👍

Yeah, kind of have a hard time caring about a multibillion dollar company's complaints about the prospect of losing out on potential money in the future, even if it means that a multitrillion dollar company makes more money because of it. That's just business doing what businesses do as far as I'm concerned, and it isn't like Sony can't make money without CoD should it come to that. It's popular, but it isn't the only game in town. Literally.

It's actually pretty funny that Sony's position boils down to "our rival has games that are far more popular than ours". All Microsoft needs to do when the next Xbox launches is quote from Sony's own legal teams about why as a consumer you should buy Xbox 😂

Microsoft's buying of Activision is going to go through. The main problem with stopping it? The burden of proof is on governments to stop mergers. And while Sony can make points about Call of Duty being such a huge deal, and it is!, it is a game that dominates only a genre. Microsoft can easily point out that while they are getting a big shooter franchise, the other genres such as RPGs, adventure, horror, etc. are still very open and there isn't anything preventing another studio from making their own shooter franchise.

In essence, I don't think with so many game consoles and then both the Steam and Epic game stores you can reasonably make the argument that buying Activision will stifle competition. I know it's a huge deal and Microsoft is very smart for doing this, but despite any arguments that companies or politicians can make there isn't enough to prove that Microsoft buying them will prevent competition when with gaming going digital there are more ways to publish and play games than ever before. Which means the regulators will have to let it go through. Microsoft would most likely challenge a 'no' in court and win, while it might be a moral victory to fight them on that governments hate taking companies to court and losing.

Sony complaining about influencing console choice after making games like bloodborne completely console exclusive is not petty it's downright moronic.

As a consumer with Game Pass, more games for me is good. Setting that aside, I do see the potential for concentrating so many studios in the hands of a single company could be problematic, however I think we’re seeing a strong wave of indie devs coming up in recent years, I don’t think it will be a problem in the long run assuming the indies succeed. If even a handful of developers rise to FromSoft’s level, the gaming industry with continue to grow

It’s funny that Sony is so worried about Xbox having CoD exclusives when they have been getting exclusive maps and game modes for years.

The hypocrisy after years of them paying to keep games off of Xbox lmao

"Call of Duty is so overly entrenched so that no rival no matter how relevant they are can catch up" BULLSHIT. That's what they say about WoW and look at the state it is in now. And CoD only seems okay right now at this point in time because Battlefield keeps dropping the ball.

There's nothing unique about these games we're buying, but we're spending a metric fuckton of money on them.

Who the fuck is MS trying to fool?

If the merger does happen, would be interesting if they could get the team of Halo Wars or Gears Tactics to do a new Starcraft on console.
