Dances With Wolves (1990)

This is a deleted scene of Kicking Bird showing Dunbar land that is both sacred to the Sioux people and their enemies. They stumble upon an area that had been recently occupied by White settlers. Trash and dead animals killed for sport litter the ground. Upon seeing this, Dunbar insists they find those who were responsible and kill them. Instead, they water their horses and return to the camp.

The Score in this film directs the whole thing. The feeling of grandeur, joy and elation following quickly by transiting to caution, urgency, despair and sadness.

Anyone able to explain to me what is happening in this scene please? I understood the opening but dont understand what they came across. The dead animals, was this supposed to be a hunter? Thanks :)
