As soon as this fish is taken out of the water and its mouth is opened, many small fishes start coming out of its mouth. Actually, this is the arowana fish, which, after laying eggs, keeps those eggs in its mouth to protect them from predators, and when the babies come out of the eggs, it releases them from its mouth.

It's called a mouth brooder.. a lot of fish species do this. The mother won't eat for 30 some odd days give or take to raise the babies in its mouth.

I had some African chiclids that protected their babies like that. They were small but if you reached your hand in the tank, the mother and father would deliver a painful bite. The table broke and the tank shattered on the floor. I saved most of them. But afterwards the father wouldn't let the mother anywhere near the survivors,

They are not taking their babies away, they are breeding the arrowana and they are bringing the babies to a better environment for them to grow faster so they could be ship to fish store or to your house

Not so uncommon as it would seem. Many species of cichlids are mouthbrooders also. Charming to watch a swarm of babies hurry back into mama's mouth at the least sign of danger.

. In Malaysia this business is very lucrative for arowana breeders..the babies are then transferred to nurseries to be fed and when they're at a certain age will be sold globally..

The mom fish is hungry and traumatized. This is sad to see any living animals offspring being taken away for any reason. They didnt agree im sure.
