The sounds remind you how big the map around you is. Just imagine the whole place going totally dark at night

i've never lived long enough to hear this before 😭

If anyone is wondering what the "laser" sounds are in some of them, as someone who has lived through multiple hurricanes that's power lines snapping or at the very least a pole going down.

The "oh shit I gotta eat all my perishable food in the fridge before it rots" sound

I feel like as long as basic infrastructure like running water and electricity continue, you can feel hopeful that things may still get under control and be restored back to normal. Once the power goes out, you know well and truly that no help is coming. You're on your own now.

They really nailed how ominous and haunting this would be with the sound design. It takes into account how the player likely watched all of civilization collapse on television and radio before this, and those sounds were the final remnants of a proper world crumbling.

i think this would be the worst thing to hear that last piece of the civilized world being extinguished

(I have over 470 hours)

Reminds me of when I was at work and the power went out. We have about 100+ 1000HP DC motors running the dryers and when power is cut that winding down sound is real and lasts about 30-40 seconds. The wind up on those motors is satisfying as fuck too

this is so eerie just hearing it meaning that humanity is gone forever

Moderately terrifying and deeply unnerving. I love it.

at 0:39 that's where the most impactful sound I've heard in PZ Its like the sound of all hope fading away.

It felt ominous and helpless in a sense

it would be cool if you could reach electrical level 10 and restore small parts of the power grid.

You bear that? Thats the sound of civilization dying

A while back I was playing with my friend, we were about 20 days in, and I remarked to him "wow day 20 I'm surprised the power's still on". Literally 2 seconds later I hear 0:02. It's like the game was listening.

When you realize all of modern civilization rests on pillars of clay and any collapse means restarting at the stone age.

interior largue: sounds when the player is inside a large structure such as warehouses, malls and factories

Interior small: sounds when the player is inside a small structure, such as houses or shops

Distant block 01 to 03: they are the first sounds that are heard seconds before the electricity fails, they simulate the sounds of the failure in the power plant and how the entire electrical system is collapsing

Distant building 01 to 06: they sound when the player is outside, far from any structure with an electrical source such as forests or open fields, only one of them will sound randomly when the blackout arrives

Close building 01 to 03: they sound when the player is outside, near any structure with an electrical source such as in the streets or around structures, only one of them will sound randomly when the blackout arrives (and in my opinion are the best noises that the blackout produces)

All of the noises are deeply satisfying

Fun fact: some of these laser-type sounds are from tapping the metal wires that hold electric poles in place. The sound engineers for the original Star Wars movies used these sounds for the blaster shots.
