From New Zealand, this is exactly how our ex Prime Minister and first elected woman PM, Jacinda Adern came into power on 6 weeks before our 2017 election when the incumbent leader of our 'democratic' Labour party was not popular. She came in on a landslide. Covid took a toll on her empathetic handling of the pandemic which saved lives and after two terms and 6 years the misogyny that grew out of lockdowns turned from world adoration to local hate. She too made a very hard and astute decision to stand down for a third term as she saw the vitriol was too much to combat. While the whole world admired her li'l olde New Zealand's conservative base ridiculed her and now we have a three headed Taniwha from the conservative right undoing everything we as a people stood for and everything the world admired. I found a quote or is it a prophecy from Leonard Cohen 2016; "We are moving into a period of bewilderment, a curious moment in which people find light in the midst of despair, and vertigo at the summit of their hopes. It is a religious moment also, and here is the danger. People will want to obey the voice of Authority, and many strange constructs of just what Authority is will arise in every mind… The public yearning for Order will invite many stubborn uncompromising persons to impose it.
