Superb movie. Little scenery, no fuss. Good acting. I got to meet William Holden right before he passed away. It was held by the Film society of Lincoln center in 1981 For Barbara Stanwyck. He was in the middle and on one arm each were Anne Baxter, and Stanwyck.

Lee J Cobb and William Holden, two of Hollywood's A-list actors. I just saw this movie for the first time. In the past whenever I thought of Lee J Cobb, I remember him playing off of Henry Fonda in "12 Angry Men." 12 Angry Men was nominated for three academy awards. I also remember William Holden in the comedy, "Born Yesterday" playing opposite Broderick Crawford, another Hollywood great! "Born Yesterday" received four academy award nominations and one winning academy award performance delivered by Judy Holliday. Thanks for posting this wonderful movie!

Always enjoy Lee J Cobb's performances, and William Holden does a good job too as the troubled murderer who has escaped prison. Tense atmosphere and avoids the cliche of a shoot-out at the end, which is probably what we would get in a modern film. Rudolph Mate also directed the wonderful "D.O.A" from 1949.

Now *THAT* was a _GOOOD_ film which I hadn't seen in years.... THX Noir Cinema. 👍
Amidst a nicely diverse cast, the Holden and Lee J. Cobb adversarial pair-off was performed to perfection, and with both Holden and Nina Foch in unusually darker roles.👌
The repeated script aspect of Holden's hand "cramping-up" was particularly effective, and whose "successful resolution" was appropriately evidenced in the final 😎
The Golden Age of Hollywood = ❤

Any movie with these stars is guaranteed to be well acted and full of drama. I'm used to seeing Nina Foch in older roles, having been born in '58. Like in "Lou Grant." So it's good to see her younger, sexier work.

Cobb and Holden, two exceptionally talented actors. They could have switched roles, here, and carried it off with equal aplomb.

Excellent movie! People today blame crime on guns.... the blame should be put in how criminals were raised! So many abused children /adults for generations! THATS the real reason for so much crime and homelessness.... not guns! My heart aches for the children of abuse, and there are far too many! We definitely need more mental health facilities!

It's a bit strange to see Holden in a bad guy role. I'm so used to seeing him as a good guy. Just like Bogey, who's done his share on both sides of the law.

Nothing about this movie remotely approaches believability. The Walker character has a whole gang of people helping him escape including girlfriend...and yet they're stuck waiting for some other member of the gang who never shows up? Plus the idea that a shrink could "cure" a murderer in a few hours is laughable.

This fs my very favorite of the actor whose character's name was my namesake: Pete. It was only the 2nd of his 19 year career.
Robert Osterloh (May 31st, 1918 - April 16th, 2001) was just 30 when The Dark Past was released. He missed 83 years of age
by a mere 6 weeks. When did pass away, he was in the city where I lived for the very longest of anywhere else: Los Osos, CA.
