Energy drink companies should be held accountable for their products containing extreme amounts of the synthetic version of B6 because that's what caused my neuropathy in my feet.

I have had B6 toxicity for over a year and a half and no one knows why or how to help me. I used to take the occasional B complex and i drank Liquid Iv electrolyte drinks which contain added synthetic Bs. I literally thought i was dying... cardiac symptoms, arrhythmia, stroke-like symptoms, neuropathy, severe sleep disturbance, bruxism, hyperreflexia, severe fatigue, etc. I stopped all synthetic Bs 6 months ago and started eating healthy, eating mostly meat and veggies and taking beef liver supplements. I finally began feeling better, but still had some tingling and bruxism, but it not nearly as bad. I was finally healing... but then had my B6 rechecked, and was shocked to find it is even higher than it was before when i felt my worst. If i back off the beef liver i start to feel horrible again, so i tend to agree with the theory that some of us who are toxic are actually deficienct at the cellular level. Our bodies cannot effectively convert the b6 into its usable form so it accumulates in the blood. I also believe the worst symptoms were due to the synthetic B in my body. I also discovered i have an MTHFR gene mutation as well as a mutation that keeps me from properly absorbing B6. I also have hashimotos and found that many others with B6 toxicity also have it. I'm 45 and also going thru perimenopause. There may be a perfect storm for some of us of gene mutations and uncontrolled inflammation (which could be caused by any variety of things). My current course of action is to address the inflammation caused by hashimoto's and see where that leads. I just can't believe our Healthcare professionals have NO IDEA about any of this. It's been an absolute nightmare. I hope science catches up soon.

Had megavitamin-b6 syndrome back in mid-2019. Thank you for spreading awareness. I say the NHS recommendation of no more than 10mg/day is the most reasonable guideline.

Hello. I heard the Pyridoxal 5-Phosphate version of B6 is not toxic.

I developed Brachial Pruitis, severe radiating itch down the arm. I resolved it twice by stopping my supplements that contain B6. It’s so sad that most people do not realize that neuropathic pain or numbness can easily be prevented.

Thanks, this is valuable information.

Nutritional yeast is very common ingredient in vegan cooking. So disappointed to learn that it has added Pyridoxine Hcl especially as recent blood test shows I have B6 toxicity (602 nmol/L). I have never seen this listed in the ingredients of Australian supermarket brands of nutritional yeast.

Tingling in the feet could be due to B1 and B12 deficiencies. At advanced age, Pernicious Anemia can result from inability to make 'intrinsic factor' that absorps B12 from food in the stomach. A sublingual 1-5, 000 mcg is a good solution.
Fat-soluble Benfotiamine B1 absorbs 5-8 times better than Thiamine mononitrate/HCl and crosses the blood-brain-barrier and myelin sheath.
P-5-P B6 is safe upto 7 grams, according to Nerve Doctor Dr Valerie Monteiro

In May 2023, the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) set a new maximum permitted intake of vitamin B6 of 12.5 mg/day for adults (including pregnant and breastfeeding women); the previous UL value of 30 mg/day from 2000 was thus lowered.

What type of vitamin B6 did your patient Jane take? You didn't mention that. Was it pyridoxal 5-phosphate or pyridoxine HCL? I heard the latter is harmful like you said. But allegedly P5P can be taken safely in high doses. Is that true?

Thank you. I got toxic from taking MegaMagnesium produced by Ethical Nutrients. Did not realise it contained 50mg of B6. I am hoping the TGA acts soon to drastically reduce the upper limit. I never saw the warning on my product. The levels will probably flush out within three months of stopping supplements but it will take on average two years to heal nerves damaged by peripheral neuropathy.

Morton's Toe (Greek Foot) is meant to be associated with inability to metabolise B6. This can be addressed by consuming P5P, the activated form of B6.
B6 can build up in people with this condition, without taking any or much supplementation. How do you reduce serum B6 if you are not supplementing?

It’s very hard to hear the affected lady. But I was three times over the B6 limit from supplements. Plus I was toxic on other vitamins. Had no clue. Then my body started doing crazy things. I’ve never been the same since. I’m not sure if the toxicity messed me up or something else. But, it sucks!

So scary. 100 mg P5P is what I've been taking for past 6 months. Why do they make it at that level if its that toxic?

After thorough testing from a neurologist and being cleared of MS and ALS, I've been found to have b6 toxicity. The problem is that I do not take b6 at all in any form other than what naturally occurs in food. I'm told this is impossible but I've searched everything I've consumed for the last year and I can assure you there's no b6. Any thoughts on how I can be toxic? My symptoms have been so severe, drs have put me on 2 rounds of steroids.

It can even start being an issue at like 20mg+ daily.

Most the other B-Vitamins are more safe and generally helpful
For Neuropathy and Energy take B2 individually
For skin and general circulation B3 Niacin
